Lens away - Saturday

Recommended Posts

Also, I remember when Fofana got crocked by a Spanish player in preseason visit by ? Spanish team so that went well. Then again, I recall Benlouane kicking a Burton player up on the air in a pre season friendly lol and getting hooked immediately! If it's a run out why put the miles in? Surely the players would rather be back home quickly after a non event pre season match as witnessed today.

First year since we've been able to stream most of the friendlies that I've seen next to none of them.

Can somebody who isn't utterly hysterical give me a vaguely balanced assessment on how we've played?

There’s not a single positive to take. We’ve been piss poor in attack, midfield and defence.

We look disorganised and unfit, poor in possession and poor out of possession.

I was of the opinion that Cooper was a good appointment and we would at least be competitive. However, I watched the full game today and it is difficult to express how poor we were without sounding hysterical and dramatising it. We simply couldn't make 2 passes unless Madds was one of those passes. We couldn't get out of our own defensive third, let alone our own half.

I am also concerned by Cooper coming out and telling everyone we need new players. Yes, we do, but it screams of Rodgers and refusing to take responsibility for the job. He signed up for it, we all know where we are, but alienating the only people that can get us moving is the wrong way of going about it.

A very bad day today, let's hope it galvanises us to scrap for every ball next week, because I don't think we can rely on our quality on the pitch to stay up.

It seems the players either do not understand what Cooper wants them to do, or they do understand it but simply don’t believe in it and therefore aren’t motivated to break sweat.

It took me back to the very bad old days of Ian Holloway’s LCFC. Tactically inept, no game plan, players playing out of position, better players benched, a lack of creativity. Tbf to Holloway I’d at least say he had more attacking intent than Cooper has shown in the last 3 games.

I mean Holloway's attacking intent was just "if I put enough strikers on the pitch one of them will score"

That is true but I was just assessing on a more basic level that Holloway did try and encourage his team to try and get possession of the ball in the opponents half some of the time.

honestly the only thing I like seeing in those highlights is Mads picking up the Kasper trait of absolutely berating his defence for hanging him out to dry.

do not understand how it can be this bad. sure we've lost KDH but we've still got 90% of a starting line up that was on course to break readings record until the lack of squad depth in midfield told and we wobbled in Feb/march. all we needed was a kdh replacement and to start adding squad depth in centre mid. instead we've signed a 31 year old on a three year contract, and spent the biggest chunk of our budget on another centre back to go with the 5 we already had...

Just seen the interview with Cooper post match. By all accounts it would have been difficult to be positive about very much but I saw a man in a state of PANIC.

I wasn’t unhappy with his appointment although I was at Shrewsbury and left feeling underwhelmed by the performance. However my  optimism of a few weeks ago is now being tested.

Had serious vibes of this:

What does he expect when he's started a choudhury/soumare, Winks, Ndidi midfield for half our friendlies with Ndidi in the 10 role? Ricardo not being a starter and inverting into centre back as well.

I could stomach us going down if it felt we were building towards something and giving our young talents a run out, but they're not even getting minutes in pre season, we've used most of our budget on a centre back we didnt need and we're loaning/signing on a free a bunch of plays who dont look good enough to keep us up on the face of it.

He's complaining about not having enough signings but the signings he's made Okoli and Cordova Reid arent performing better than those already at the club and I'll be surprised if a washed Zaha and Bouananotte is going to make a difference.

I was actually quite excited by him as a manager before the friendlies because he has a decent record with English youth but it seems like he's more willing to play experienced players who will only ever be not good enough than inexperienced players who might not be good enough right now but can develop into good players.

Anyone remember when we were 5000/1 to win the league?

In other words, we were bookies favourites to go down.

I was quite confident we would stay up that season - and so it proved.

This coming season however, so many of us have written the season off already. We must be favourites to go back down, this time the bookies could confidently offer odds of 55000/1 on us winning the league and I wouldn't place even 10p on it.

Totally agree, the great escape sowed the seeds for the premier league title win, watching the game today any positives was lost seeing players shouting at other players because their passing was so sh*t and more importantly they couldn't be arsed they were all just turning their backs to each other

It's impossible to give a description of that performance without thinking its hysterical. Genuinely as bad a 90 minutes as you'll ever witness.

Just come through the dartford tunnel on way back from Dover, taken 2 hours to get through, feel for the coaches which were around 1.5 hrs behind

We came through around midnight (eventually), the coaches were on the same ferry as us. The match was awful but it's been a fantastic 24 hours, Lens fans were fantastic.

In the match highlights for this one, there wasn't a single Leicester highlight, despite the clip being 11 minutes long. That's how bad we were. 2 shots in total, one on target, which was a pathetic effort. Not even any passages of play showing forays into the other half.

Absolutely abject performance from start to finish.

That was akin to Man City v Forest Green Rovers

My eyes are still bleeding after watching that.

I went blind at half time. And it had nothing to do with the football. It was just more productive than watching us being massacred.

Was anyone else baffled by the way we were treated as away fans?

We arrived an hour before kick off, walked the whole way around the stadium but couldn’t find our entrance.  Asked several Lens fans who had no idea.  We met other Leicester fans doing the same thing, all confused.  Ended up back where we started , and found a load of other Leicester fans in a group, trying to speak to stewards and getting nowhere.  One woman was quite upset as she had young kids with her who were really hot and thirsty. It was mostly families.  No one was causing any trouble.

Then police arrived, we were surrounded by police with riot shields, and escorted as a huge group to the away entrance (which wasn’t signposted)..  There we were let in slowly through 4 turnstiles, which often didn’t work with the tickets.  By this time it was nearly kick off.  Some of the Leicester fans, who’d been chilled and placid before this madness, were starting to get a bit stroppy.

Finally everyone was in, but it was probably about 15 minutes into the game. There were no stewards at all, no one directing us to our seats, so it was a total free-for-all.  The netting around us was annoying, making the view even worse.

I’ve taken my teens to a few away games and a lot of pre season friendlies, and never experienced anything like it!  I don’t know why we couldn’t have just been directed to the entrance and made our own way there.

sounds like heaven

Having just watched the lowlights of that game. I can say without any doubt, that was the worst performance I can ever remember seeing. There was nothing absolutley nothing to have any optimism about whatsoever.

This club is in decline

I’ve watched all of the pre season friendly matches except the Villarreal game as the links didn’t work, underwhelmed is an understatement, the final pre season friendly is usually a rough guide to our team for the first League match of the season and we decided to play absolutely awful, now either Cooper is a master of deception and decided to deliberately tell all X1 to play crap to fool other teams in the Premier League or we are just an unorganised team who are walking blindfold into possibly our worst top flight season ever…

5/6 very decent players need to be signed this week to go straight into our starting X1 against Spurs next Monday…

Did not see the game. I know Daka went off. Did Cannon get any minutes? How did he look? What is up.with Vardy and how long will he be out? I think we will add to the squad. We have to. We need some quality though not just volume.
