Your Top 5 Albums

Recommended Posts

Music taste is mostly subjective and my own tastes can vary depending on my state of mind but right now and for some years, my top 5 favourite albums are, in no particular order:

Songbird, Eva Cassidy.

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Beatles.

Bat Out of Hell, Meatloaf

Rumours, Fleetwood Mac

Greatest Hits, David Bowie.

Would probably change depending on the day you asked me but 5 off the top of my head that I've played loads are:

The Velvet Undergound

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Stone Roses (yeah I know)

TCQ - People's Instinctive Travels...

Sufjan Stevens - Can't choose 1, maybe Illinois

Dunno if they are my 'top' but they seem to be the ones the algorithms think I like the most...

Difficult to pick a top 5 but I could listen to these albums over and over...

Shed Seven - Going for Gold

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

R.E.M. - Automatic for the People

The Darkness - Permission To Land

British Sea Power - The Decline of British Sea Power

Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit

Morrissey - Vauxhall and I

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars

Crikey, this was difficult. Picking ten would have been a lot easier but where do you stop?

Should probably be shot in the face for picking a solo Moz album over a Smiths one but there you go

The Decline of BSP is great. Probably the only indie type band from that era I still regularly listen to. Great live band too.

I find it interesting that 3 of my fave albums (The Darkness one and Fever to Tell by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs that didn't quite make the cut but would deffo be in my top ten) came out in 2003 and were all debut albums.

I was 28 that year so it's hardly a case of youth bias but it really does feel that the musical landscape has changed so much since then

Was that the album with all the nude women on it?

My Dad had a Hendrix double LP and I spent far too much time as a kid looking at the cover :D

I mean like bovril says, this is sort of impossible and likely to change every two minutes but based on my recent listening I'd say something like (in no particular order.)

GY!BE - Lift Yr Skinny Fists...

RATM - Evil Empire

The Boss - Born in the USA

Flogging Molly - Swagger

Bad Religion - Suffer

It's a genuinely great album.

I was a massive Datsuns fan when I was in sixth form. I hated The Darkness with a passion for taking a slightly similar niche but then just camping the glam up to a thousand and being absolutely everywhere whilst nobody had really even heard of the Datsuns lol
