Leicester 1 - 2 Villa POST MATCH

As others have said, you can't play Ndidi, Winks and Skipp together.

Skipp I thought was really tidy, I like the look of him. Drop Ndidi for Buonanotte and have a go from the off and we could've actually got something. If Buonanotte needs to come off then you've got El Khannouss now too, options all of a sudden. Getting Eduoard involved will be key too, Vardy can't play 90 minutes. Okoli was ok, referee was terrible but that's just what I expect these days.

Villa were fairly average, nothing special, but tactically light years ahead with a very, very good manager.

If we were a bit braver, we would've picked up a point there I'm sure.

I would swap Ndidi for Bilal and then we could rotate Bounanotte and Fatawu on the right and Ayew / Mav on the left

Playing Ndidi - a player with little footballing technique and even less creativity - as a 10 in the Premier League is a mistake that Cooper must never make again. It defies all logic and reason. I know Maresca tried it too but it is unsustainable and I reckon it cost us at least one point today.

Justin instead of Ricardo is another weird one.

Maresca tried Ndidi as a 10 against glorified binmen.

Cooper is just awful.

It's clear from this thread a lot of supporters have no time for Cooper regardless of the team he puts out   I thought for large periods of play we more than matched a villa side who will be playing champions league this season.

A dire refereing performance helped villa to gain the 3pts.  1st goal skipp clearly won the ball which resulted in Watkins falling to the ground waving the imaginary yellow.  They get an undeserved free kick, skipp gets booked.  They score from the free kick.  We should have had a penalty and a goal ruled out by coote because he got in the way on our build up play.

I have to say I enjoyed today the football played overall was better than last season.

Carry on like that with the effort, commitment players new to the club, bedding in and getting use to systems and teamwork, I believe we will be OK this season.

Remember we have to finish top of the mini league of 6 at the bottom.  14th or 15th will do.

At last a sensible well thought out intelligent post ..

We have had bloody hard games stop with the agenda

I didn’t think there was much in the game. The main difference was the use of the ball. First half we treated it like a hot potato, whereas Villa looked after it.

The chances they had first half all came from sloppy passing. Villa had more players who can give you a moment when things aren’t going for you. For some reason we decide to keep all of our difference makers on the bench. For as useful as Ayew was, he isn’t taking on a full back and driving for the box. Fatawu is too easy to mark out the game if there’s no other threats. We waited too long to bring them on, and by then it was too late.

In the words of the great Shakey, we are a better team when we play on the front foot. This was my first match since Cooper took over, and the obvious takeaway is that he needs to be braver. If we play as we did today, we will always be in games, but won’t pick up enough points to survive. Give the opposition something to be worried about. Mavididi made such a difference when he came on.

Props to Okoli for a very good debut, second goal aside, but he’s young and new to this league, so I can let that go. Hermansen showed his importance to us. Skipp and Ayew had decent games. The less said about the referee the better.

We looked on par at least with a team that is about to play in the Champions League after we went for it in the second half.

A poor decision from the ref for the first and a great header. We need to try to win games from the off. We controlled the midfield for the most part. The problem was that for 60 odd minutes we controlled in our own half.

Vardy far too isolated untill the changes. That loss has to go on the manager. We have some good players attacking wise. We just need to play them. Mavadidi must start. Ayew was neat and tidy but offered no attacking threat what so ever.

Still positive vibes as we didn't look out of our depth.

Don't disagree with all the calls for not playing 3 dm's but after Rodgers and maresca, I loved seeing him bring on 3 attacking players, and then even replacing a central defender with a winger late on. Better than doing nothing and just trusting the system.

Definitely things to learn, but i reckon I'm just okoli being lumped up front for the last 10, from a viagra stiffy.

We are hard working but limited and it shows. Although another hour went by with no threat and the subs should have been on earlier. Team selection is questionable right now.

Ref was shocking but wasn't the reason we lost. They didn't have to do too much to win. The next two games are huge.

Gutted we didn’t get something out of the game as I felt we battled away throughout but just lacked quality in the final third and felt Villa were bang average and full of shithousery.

At home I don’t feel we need a midfield 3 of Winks, Ndiidi and Skipp and would rather see one of either Facundo or Bilal start instead moving forward . Mavadidi for me has to start as does Ricardo.
We were punished for the first  switching off and by a fine headed goal for the second.

The standard of refereeing fell far below what we were experiencing last season and the decision for the free kick that led to their first goal poor especially as Skipp received a yellow card for it.  Back to talking about refs and VAR decisions rather than football.

this is what makes it worse. this isn't as bad a squad as it's made out, it needs letting off the leash and encouraging to get on the ball and make things happen. We however didn't, rather than starting attackers and trying to stretch the play, looking to win, we set up to not lose. thing is, if you set up to not lose you'll invite too much pressure and eventually be made to pay, and it gives the morale a massive beating (the message is you're not good enough to win these games). and worst of all, we know this is what Cooper does from his time at forest, today's lineup will be repeated, or even worse, repeated with BDCR in for Fatawu

I'm not Cooper's biggest fan by any means but I came away feeling mostly positive from today's game  - I'd just like to see us set up to be a bit more attack-minded from the off without going too gung-ho and to see changes made a bit earlier if we're behind.  There was a night and day difference to most of the home performances in the 22/23 season with plenty of fighting spirit on show which we're going to need in abundance this season.

Me too. I saw a lot of positivity in the game today with the exception being the starting lineup. But that only needs a few changes to improve. That said I thought the starting eleven did their best and were not bad by any means.  Officiating was so frustrating. The game needs to sort that out.

Cooper is such a revel in the chaos type manager, his tactics are so basic and yet there's elements to it that creates football that us fans can identify and enjoy.

I want him gone but if he can learn quickly that there's little point trying to play extremely defensive football with this squad, then he might have a small chance of doing OK here. 3 games in and we've gifted teams a head start in every game, it's galling.

I am more confident this squad can compete to stay up but we don't have much margin for error.

Would be a brave call to sack him during the international break, I hope we do but our club aren't brave enough nor proactive enough to do so.

They won’t sack him, Ric. Just like Dean Smith appointment, we might as well back this steaming shower of shit

Try to understand, this is why we're frustrated.

We believe in the potential of this squad, we believe the team we've assembled isn't as bad as people expect it to be.

We believe it can achieve more with a coach who has any kind of talent for progressive modern football tactics.

When Cooper was forced to bring on decent attacking midfielders and wingers and make a game of it, we scored. But before that with his cowardly defensive line-up we didn't look like creating a chance all day.

We can't give every team in the league a two goal lead.

This team on paper is decent. I’d say with proper management a comfortable 15th to 12th.

But I just fear Cooper is suffering the same problems he had at Forest. He is incapable of getting the balance right between attack and defence. I just don’t want us to sit on a mistake for too long, and then it cost us. Cooper has a big break coming up. The talent is there for him to tap into, he just needs to get his tactics right.

I know they won't. I can't guarantee I can back him but I'll give credit where it's due when warranted.

There's parts of these 4 games we've played that I've enjoyed but there's some deeply disturbing decision making going on that I don't agree with and fear for us. If he regroups the next 2 weeks and learns then hopefully it's not a lost cause.

Same as smith for me. We’ll win a few and also go on honking long runs imo. For my sanity I’ve mapped out the season and what I expect from a side that wants to stay up with a points deduction. More than a draw vs Palace and I’m over the moon.

He has to get  the right balance in the team. Likewise substitutions to correct in play and inbalance and effect tactical change as needed. Seems everyone was saying the same in the crowd today. Frustrating.

on the plus  side. Players gave  it all today. Mavididi for example came on today with a point to prove and really went for it. Fair play. That spirit will be hard to keep up unless we get the balance right and start getting some wins.

Not sure I agree. I will back cooper but he has to play our best players.

Putting 3 DMs at home is negative beyond belief. As soon as he brought our creative players on (most who should be starting) we looked a complety different team. Also when he did it was too reactive from going 2 behind. I really don’t think villa were all that today, at home, we should be taking it to them. He has to show belief in our players instead of playing for a nil nil.

You have to give the opposition something to worry about. Like Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. We are at home,  so let’s punch them in the face. Not turn up with a clear an obvious plan to stay in the game and defend. You don’t have to gung ho, it can be done sensibly but it starts by playing some creative players and not relying on Wilf to play defence splitting balls. Surely the whole point of buying skipp was to free up any midfielder to push up and get creative. For me I think we have the squad to give it a real good shot, Steve cooper at the moment doesn’t seem to think the same.

Spot on every word.

I voiced something similar in the match thread about a negative set up, lacking any creative spark due to "3DM's"  no Mav and  Ricky P who IMO is a must starter, just to give a bit of quality to the defence.

We looked a totally different team once we added attack minded players to the game.

Surely if a number of fans can all see it Cooper can too?

You know this is how I feel but some of the decision making makes it incredibly hard. I look at the side when they are in full flow and, more importantly our competitors, Ipswich, Saints, Everton and think we have enough to warrant believing we can stay up. Problem is, this approach and the hope the manager “learns”. He won’t. This is his style, ask Forest fans, he got sacked on it, went through a horrendous away record on it.

and just been sent this - this is Skys response to the goal today. It’s like EVERYBODY can see it. There’s being pragmatic and then there’s being a pussy. That line up today at ****ing home was cowardly,
