Leicester 1 - 2 Villa POST MATCH

We're going to have some fans who back Cooper for far, far longer than they should, because he will keep putting us in situations where we have to throw caution to the wind to try and salvage a result. Let's not kid ourselves that we saw anything other than 70 minutes of clueless was and then 20 minutes of recklessness.

What I would give for Maresca (or any other manager that has a defined system of play). Under Cooper we play, tactically at least, like a Sunday league side. Players thrown together with no real instruction - it's painful to watch.

We saw it with Southgate in the Euros - passing for the sake of passing.

One positive - our season won't be defined by games against the top 6.

I agree with much of this……I want a coach who has a clear style of play but has some flexibility.. (got frustrated with maresca at times), but more than that I want a coach to set up with forward intent…… you can’t hope to survive on shithouse wins or expect a team to chase games when you pick 3 CDM,s ……lastly I want  a coach with the ability to interpret a game and make proactive changes in a timely fashion…I don’t feel we’ve had a coach like that for a long time…

Hopefully Cooper can learn the lessons that have been apparent every game so far, but more pronounced today:

Ndidi is not a starter. In any position.

Defend for 70 minutes, then attack for 20 once we’re behind is not a successful strategy.

Vardy is an impact sub, not a 90 minute every week player.

Ricardo improves that side instantly.

You would have thought Cooper would have learnt lessons from his days at Forest.

Playing Ndidi - a player with little footballing technique and even less creativity - as a 10 in the Premier League is a mistake that Cooper must never make again. It defies all logic and reason. I know Maresca tried it too but it is unsustainable and I reckon it cost us at least one point today.

Justin instead of Ricardo is another weird one.

It's clear from this thread a lot of supporters have no time for Cooper regardless of the team he puts out   I thought for large periods of play we more than matched a villa side who will be playing champions league this season.

A dire refereing performance helped villa to gain the 3pts.  1st goal skipp clearly won the ball which resulted in Watkins falling to the ground waving the imaginary yellow.  They get an undeserved free kick, skipp gets booked.  They score from the free kick.  We should have had a penalty and a goal ruled out by coote because he got in the way on our build up play.

I have to say I enjoyed today the football played overall was better than last season.

Carry on like that with the effort, commitment players new to the club, bedding in and getting use to systems and teamwork, I believe we will be OK this season.

Remember we have to finish top of the mini league of 6 at the bottom.  14th or 15th will do.

Exactly this👍🏼

Enzo played him as an 8 alongside KDH though, mainly so Winks could be the one dictating and receiving the ball from defence. Coopers playing him as an out and out 10. I stick by the view that we should have let him go, it was time to move on.

One of those games where the manager gets cut some slack because we finished the game on the front foot, when the truth is he lost us the match by not starting the sort of attacking players who got us our goal.

It is a difficult job here, but Cooper is not helping. He needs to realise we need more wins than other teams to survive because of the points deduction. The starting line-up was so negative, that midfield 3 is dreadful.

Ref didn’t help by continually getting in the way, stopping the match, falling for their antics, inconsistent with his cards - and on the replay the Tielemens tackle on Vardy when there was a big protest from our players, looked a blatant penalty.

The squad is weak but Cooper’s selections are making it worse. Poor manager.

Footballers are sensitive souls, he has got to rotate players to maintain harmony in the squad. Most pro footballers I’ve heard giving interviews about their careers soon throw their teddies out the pram if they feel they are being excluded.

The referee should never get in the way of the ball. It means he’s in the wrong position, too central / near the play and needs to understand he should be on the periphery. Too many referees like Mike Dean have to be the centre of attention.

I used to work with a premier league ref in the 90’s (when the money paid was a pittance) and he would have dropped himself from the next game if he touched the ball whilst in place. Inexcusable in his opinion. Indicates a poor referee.

i thouht we played a lot better this time, thought ayew was good, okoli, kristansen made some good runs down the left, skipp didnt impress though didnt realise hes balding until i saw the top of his head from P2 family area. buonanotte was also good and took his goal well. cordova-reid ? not sure...

keep it up and get edouard in we may get some more goals. a glimmer of hope?

He’s not a 10, nor an 8. Never has been. He’s a 6 (like it says on his shirt) - a defensive midfielder - and nothing else. In his prime he was one of the great tacklers but his ball control and passing have always been inadequate at Premier League level.

Any manager that thinks otherwise is - to put it nicely - barking up the wrong tree.

Midfield three didn’t work - need to play a natural 10 in Ndidis place.

Thought Ayew did well and should have stayed on for Vardy.

Would have liked to see Ricardo come on for last 10-15.

Okoli looked strong, keeps his place imo.

Could definitely have got something if we had been more positive earlier. Onto the next.
