that he's essentially expected to play as a wing back to cover for the set up? that we're lining up with so little offensive intent that there's no chances for him to create?

That's more an indictment of Cooper than Abdul surely?

Yes to both! I meant it more about how he's been asked to play. Although to be fair, he was also effectively a wingback at times under Maresca but because of the control we have, he had freedom of the right flank so was doing both the defending and attacking.

 

Got to find a way to get him more involved going forwards but also think he needs to get a bit of clarity back, as he seems unsure whether to pass or attack the opposing full back and has then been caught dallying on the ball

Also get Mavididi on the opposite side and you’ll see Abdul getting more freedom on the opposite side IMO. He gets that many tackles as JJ sits back more so he is constantly filling that space. All credit to him for his effort. 
 

If anything Cooper clearly needs to tweak things.

exactly my thoughts. If he’s not tackling what’s he doing. 

 

I think we all thought he was being kept around to reprise his previous role but he doesn’t fit what we are doing at all right now. 

 

Surely we won’t see him for a while now.

They're already weak. 90% of arguments in favour of Cooper are just that it seems too soon to be worried.

Definite feeling of scorelines masking matches right now. Can see several narrow defeats where we offer little to follow what has been.
