I used to work for Ladbrokes in Liverpool, there is one bet i'd say most footy fans should know about, and this was the favourite in the betting shop and at the booths at Goodison and Anfield.

(player) to score 1st or last - £1 (ew)

£2 total bet.

Most football matches finish 1-0 if you manage to pick the goal scorer the odds are doubled and you get it twice.

eg.

Beckford to score 1st or last at 4/1 - £2 bet

result 1-0 to city becks scored

= £2 @ 4/1 x2 as the goal qualifies as 1st and last

£16 return. + stake

Also you have interest in the game until the final whistle, cracking little bet that's worked for me on more than a few occasions.
