why didn't they just put 8k on the everton game? why try an buy a slip for 8k that would return 45k when it was 9/2 for everton/btts so 8k would've returned £44k anyway?

getting 8k on a side market not as easy as you'd think.

yeah i know but presumably they're a decent sized group of people in a "syndicate" that could've split 8k across a load of accounts, if not a load of different bookies. more effort probably but seems odd to "buy" someone else's slip when you could just have your own bet for almost identical returns. if you shopped around you'd probably have got better than 9/2 as well. unless they were trying @ 2-2 or something?

if your pot is big enough and you cover enough of a board you usually win money on roulette machines. not many people have deep enough pockets if it starts badly though. 

 

eg. 

 

cover ten numbers with £10 = total stake £100 

 

lose = -£100

 

x2 = -£200

 

x3 = -£300 

 

stake £100 again and win = -£40, but balance is £360 

 

stake £160 on 16 numbers and win = +£160 (£400 put in, £560 balance). 

 

obviously doesnt happen every time but the point is most people would be out the game if they lost £100 or £200. if you have endless resources (drug dealers) you will often turn £600 into £720 or something. it's just to 99% of the world that is a) a lot of stress for little gain and b) not possible due to the size of your starting pot anyway. and obviously all it takes is one bad day when you see no return for your £800 outlay and you're ruined for a few weeks.

 

they are shit things. no sane bookie or punter likes them. they make a lot of money on the whole though which is why they exist. everybody who deals with them on a day to day basis wants to rip them out the wall and launch them out the window in front of a double decker bus.

Can definitely see what you're saying but the way I see it is that it's just a long winded way of sticking £600 on Real Madrid to beat Getafe.
