Although, you have to bet big to win big so fair play, I would if I had a spare grand lieing about.

I think its much easier to pick a horse from the top 4 or 5 in the betting that wont win. The amount of times that I am reading the form and cant work out why some donkey is 4th best in the betting is endless. Theynever win either! Laying favourites is a dangerous game also but I know a cab driver who earns about £700 a week driving and double that on laying favs on Betfair!

My day today was up and down. I finished 7th in a £1500 tourney in poker that only got me £70 back which was gutting as the main money is top 3 (BTW I play on username Emelios1 if anyone sees me about). I won about £200 on poker in all but the horses took about £150 of that during the day. All in all it was far too much work for £50 .

It's just about looking for value, and knowing which races to lay. If I play to win say £100-£200 a day, you sometimes have good days and you sometimes have bad days, but if your patient and watch the 'in-running' betting to minimise your loss (if you know how well the horse is running) then you'll do ok.

For example if I lay a horse @ evens before the off to loose £150 (So thats to win £75 on that race) and in running it seems to be coasting I will say stand to loose £75 rather than the full amount, on the other hand if i see the horse under the kosh and being ridden heavy (i.e. jockey looks like he's sh*gging the thing like he's been inside for 5 years and aint had none for a while) then I may lay it a lil bit more - or I may even decide to back it at bigger odds to guarantee me profit on any horse that wins (incase of any fallers)

Laying favourites is dangerous, unless you can get out in running, the gruss software is great for that as you can watch your profits and loss in running and because you can set the timer to 0.5 sec compared to betfairs 3 sec delay its a great help, I would strongly suggest a download and play of the program...if you want linkage giz a shout!

I back horses to fill gaps but I dont want to fry my fragile brain with all this spread betting and laying stuff!!! Thanks for the offer of the links but its too dangerous for me! A mate backs how the bloomin shares will rise and fall on the hour and all sorts of mad bets!

The plan is we hit Vegas for Poker in April and hopefully the discipline will kick in. Nochance with them casinos in sight!

Talking of poker it really annoyed me last night. I had pockets nine;s so I obviously raised pre flop and got 2 callers. Baring in mind this is the first hand. The flop comes out 6 & 7 of clubs and a 9. I bet 150 into a 350 pot and get one caller. The next card is a 7 so we have 6 7 9 7 along with my pocket 9z gives me the full house and is looking like i should win the pot. So i bet 225 into a pot of 650 as really i want a call as im dominating. The the guy raises all in so I obviously call. He turns over 10 10 so he has 2 pair which doesnt beat my full house. Then on the river out pops the 10.....I mean wtf ...comon. OUT first hand. Also last night I got called all in pre-flop when I had AA and lost to K 10.... and the same happened when I had AA again I lost to 6 5 .....the idiot called all along after he had hit his 6 on the flop even though there was a K Q out their (plus i had raised preflop) and hit trip sixes on the river.....3 bad beats I hate it when that happens...it was an absolute joke!!

Any bettage on the horses today?

Some of the software used online is terrible. The second fav always drops the impossible card on some firms. The only advice I would have given you on that hand is to have bet at least half pot, maybe even two thirds because the flop had too many dangers, with the straight and flush possibles. In your case I doubt that even an all-in bet would have made pocket 10s fold as that was an over pair on the flop but my suggestion is for future reference!

The best thing to do when you get a bad beat is not to go on tilt. I am getting much better at not wanting to sling the monitor outside the window these days although my anger does sometimes get the better of me when I lose unluckily!!
