Let's have a films thread.

Saw the Hunt (Jagten) last night, fantastic bit of performance cinema. Unfortunately had to see it at the old Panton Street Odeon which perhaps took something out of the cinematography (archaic screen) but none the less beautiful.

Mikkelsen is absolutely superb and the drama was very well understated but sharply real.

Well worth the watch, especially for anyone that only knows Mads as Le Chifre of Casino Royale.

Jack's a great actor.

The Hobbit is a 200 page children's book. That it's being made into a trilogy just reeks of commercialism, not sure how they're going to pad out the films. Of course there is lots of background material out there, but Tolkein decided no to put it into that particular story. That film-makers (or Jackson and his production company) don't realise that is beyond me. They could do other films using the Middle-Earth mythos without messing with The Hobbit.

I get a feeling it's going to lose a lot of it's innocence and charm. :(

It will still be a great movie, possibily the best of the year as most of the previous directors/cast have worked on the previous LOTR, so they will know they need to produce something equally as good if not better.

Watched two films recently-Gran Torino which I thought was fantastic and embarrassingly, it was the first film that I saw Clint Eastwood in and he was immense in that film.

Watched Scott Pilgrim vs World which was very quirky yet very enjoyable. Eighties and Nineties kids would love the video games/ films references.

 :jawdrop:

He's taking material from the LOTR appendices and the Simirillion(sp?) both written after the Hobbit, therefore Tolkein wouldn't have known the information then.

Here's an honest trailer for Prometheus ****WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS****

lol

That's totally how it is.

How it got so many decent reviews completely baffles me.

Total space junk and the worst scifi film for years.

At least we can sleep easy knowing that a sequel is likely, starring a woman who has had major abdominal surgery suffering no side effects whatsoever carrying a bag containing a robots head.

Brilliant. Can't wait.

Mentioning Kens tight do the other day has reminded me I must watch Money Talks again soon. "MY DO IS TIIIIIIGHT'. Not seen it for ages.

Tucker and Sheen team up.

That dude who fires the RPG in the football stadium cracks me up lol

Who do you think wrote the Silmarillion and the apprendices? Don't try and out Tolkein me, I've read all the stuff that his talentless, wastrel son dug out to make a living off his departed father. Some of it's good, parts of The Silmarillion would make excellent films in themselves but are only mentioned in the briefest of instances in The Hobbit. The tales of Luthien and Beren (A large part of the Silmarillion) are mentioned loads in LotR but not once in the film, despite there being a twist that binds both stories together. He completely glosses over what was a nice ending to give us Hollywood schmaltz.

The Unfinished Tales mention in more detail the Necromancer in Mirkwood (not going to give away who it is, but I bet Jackson will make it blindingly obvious, rather than the subtle hinting that the book does so as not to treat you like an idiot), but not much.

Jackson is nothing more than a maker of b-grade horror movies in capable of making anything good that is original. He overloads everything - just look at King Kong. The sooner the Middle-Earth franchise is prised from his hands (cold, lifeless... I'm not fussy) the better.

I'll probably go and see it sometime next week.

That IS GLaDOS!!! I'm convinced of it!

BTW:

The+Hobbit+_scifidrive.jpg

Is AWESOME... and looks spectacular in HFR 3D! Loved it.

I'm just convinced no-one has an attention span anymore... I mean most reviewers are moaning about it's length (especially the 50 mins in Bagend), but it didn't even feel very long for me, but then I can enjoy the 4hr10min Return of The King Special Edition without a problem!
