Let's have a films thread.

Cheesy lines are standard in action films. That's part of the genre. It's when a barb delivered by Sly, who looks like some sort of dyed, plucked, and tucked steroid chompin granddad greyback, it loses it emphasis and/or weight.

Yeh, sometimes it's done well and sometimes it's not. In the examples on this page it's definitely not!

I can sort of put up with Arnie. He's easier to just laugh at. Maybe because of the accent and the Ranier Wolfcastle thing. Stallone on the other hand just pisses me off. Everytime that trailer for Bullet to the Head came on the TV I just had to switch off. I think it's the continually recycled really really awful cheesy lines that really annoy me about these films. It probably shouldn't, but it does.

I agree with that Stallone comes across to me as a bit of a bighead.

Django Unchained is easily one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Anybody else enjoy it?

I enjoyed it alot until they killed off the two best characters. The last 3rd was garbage.

EDIT: Just realised that was a spoiler before I edited but you know who I mean.

Django Unchained is really, really good for a bit and then bloody terrible. Its like the script writers completely gave up with the plot and the dialogue, the actors and director had somewhere else to be and the film really suffers as a result.

I thought that too. Think they managed to get away with it with how good the other 2/3s are

I read a good description of Tarantino films the other day. He writes fantastic scenes but not particularly fantastic films. He has these stand out, memorable scenes but the connective tissue between them are usually fairly weak but his characters and the actors he casts are usually so good, you don't notice the weaknesses as much.

I can see what you're getting at there. You might be right.

I think Django Unchained is worth seeing.

Pitch Black itv2

Watching Secret Window. Johnny Depp. Another film based on a Stephen King novel about an author being stalked by an upset reader.

Hope it doesn't give any of your readers ideas Ken !

Just got back from Man of Steel.

Thought the first 15 minutes were really good. The next hour varied between passable and interesting and the final hour was just awful.

Endless scenes of stuff being thrown at other stuff.

Silver Linings Playbook - Awesome, love me a soppy romcom.

Inception - Top stuff, Nolan needs to make more movies.

Casino - Looooooooong, but very good. Love that whole style, a proper movie.

Watching City of God tonight hopefully, been a bit spoilt for movies recently haha.

Also, I keep meaning to watch Schindler's List but am I going to be a depressed mess for days afterwards cos I can't be dealing with that.

I didn't find it that depressing. There's a few scenes that could be described as distressing but in some ways it's quite an uplifitng film, since the plot is about the Jews who escaped.

Is it bad that I found Ralf Fiennes' character pretty funny? He's such a psycho freak. Great performance from him I think.

Have you seen Saving Private Ryan? Schindler's List isn't nearly as depressing as that. Neither is Platoon which for some reason has a reputation for getting people on the anti-depressants.

I still haven't watched the whole of Casino. It's on TV a lot but I always catch it half way through.
