Star Wars Ep 3 Revenge of the Sith.  Some atmosphere that.

I seem to recall with Revenge of the sith... loving it in cinema. Then once I got on dvd and watched I was like... wow this is so long and boring. Similar to Phantom Menace at least 20 minutes of the movie should have been cut... I don't think a star wars should be any longer than 2 hours. The fight between Obi and Anakin (or Vader) spoilers... well whatever, goes on soo long. that probably is that extra 20 minutes too long. The fight in Obi series was way better.

It's strange the end fight between Maul, Obi and Liam Neeson... is a long one but it was good as it was tense. This on the other hand... is 20 minutes of dullness Infront obvious greenscreen.

True.  At the time, the audience carried it and it felt better as a result.  Certainly better than watching it back however many times since.  The new trilogy of films fell flat though in comparison and only Rogue One stands out as being decent imo.

While Star Wars related, although wrong thread, looking forward to blitzing through The Acolyte soon.

The force awakens was kind of like a reboot by JJ Adams... that some interesting ideas but yeah it is a remake of a new hope, biggest problem with the recent trilogy was Adams missing out directing the second film. The last jedi took it totally different direction kind of felt like a really bad filler episode in a tv series. By the time the third and final came out with Adams returning the whole trilogy was derailed and turned into a mess. In the end Adams probably knew the story couldn't be rescued, so he just went out a created a stand alone star wars film, bring back the lando character... have one big bloody battle and happy ending of some sort. I'm not sure if that was the ending that Adams originally visualised when he started back at beginning with Force Awakens.

Same happened with Bond really I some how don't think when they started out the reboot with Casino Royale in 2006 they planned to end it with *spoilers*.... Bond having a daughter and Bond being killed at the ending.

I quite enjoyed it. Though it was definitely a switch your brain off type of movie.

Don’t think them lightsaber scenes are actually as long as you think, the fact it was interspersed with other fights at the same time made it feel longer. Personally I love the prequels, always have, arguably my favourite ever trilogy of films.

Never heard of this film but this guy seems to rate it, a Japanese Star Wars...

Found the ad for the dvd, looks very Japanese and reminds me a little of Dune, Battle Beyond the Stars, Starfleet lol

There are some amazing film trilogies out there so I'm intrigued as to how the prequels could be your fave. Is it a nostalgia thing cos I just find the prequels objectively bad films. The characters, script, pacing,  editing, scene construction and at this point the cgi are all for the most part bloody awful.

Probably partly nostalgia I just find everything about them brilliant. Some other trilogies I really like, modern planet of the apes, alien1-3, lord of the rings and the matrix.

think the prequels get a lot more respect these days than they did at the time but obviously aren’t for everyone. Certainly wouldn’t call them objectively bad I think Revenge of the Sith is an absolute belter.

I was thinking of big blockbuster films or popular films in general over the years that I thought rubbish. For example Titanic was imo ruined by a silly love story. Far better at a fraction of the cost was A Night To Remember from way back in 1958

Any of the Fast and the Furious, Harry Potter or Transformers franchise. And The Sound of Music.

How about highly rated as opposed to high-grossing/popular?

For me Forrest Gump should be nowhere near the IMDB top 250, let alone 11th.

Anyone watched Under Paris, watched it a few weeks back and thought it was pretty good for a genre that is full of shit almost parody like films.

Films like this are guilty pleasures of mine. They’re objectively not very good but for some reason I just love them. Zombeavers my personal fav of said genre.

I've resisted The Sound Of Music all these years but of course seen lots of snippets. My wife went with a friend as a young girl and walked out so she has never wanted to convince me to watch on tv. I agree with your other examples too

Yeah Under Paris isn't like those films but the genre in general is full of terrible films like that, you'll be disappointed if you watch this though I think lol
