Redfearn and Shreck in.

Emergence hopefully of Sayer, might even win a game in the Championship this season.

Certainly have a a couple of players to at least get remotly excited about.

What ever happend to them, i remember in the late 90's and early 2000's they were a top side, now it seems like they are a rabble and have been for years.

Threw away the one-day double in 2001 (in spectacular fashion), limped on for another year with veterans then it disintegrated, double relegation and no real hope of promotion since. Trying admirably to put a younger, up-and-coming side together to rebuild but it's happened far too late after years of neglect and as soon as someone looks promising they'll be snapped up by a bigger county.

The T20 has been the only saving grace in the last 12 years.

The T20 has been the only saving grace in the last 12 years.

We had the old Sunday league more or less wrapped up and probably only needed 1 more win, Kent were allowed to come from miles behind and snatch it from us. The Lords final was a disaster, Boswell had a nightmare, nobody helped him till after what seemed like the 6th wide of the over, and Afridi got out early. Plus I missed England's thrashing of Germany that same day.

Brad Hodge was stiff

Thought about Hodge but Macca better team man for me, Sehwag taking the other overseas spot.

Favourite Australian player and top man was Michael Kasprowvizc followed by Macdonald. We also had Mark Cleary, Dan Marsh Michael Bevan (class player) and last year Joe Burns who had a average time over here.

THE father of Derbyshire cricket player Tom Poynton has died in a road crash.

Wicketkeeper Tom was also involved in the incident, which killed his father Keith, which happened yesterday evening.

Police have confirmed a 57-year-old man died after the Ferrari he was driving left the road and hit a tree.

They said the crash happened in Caldwell Road, Linton, near Swadlincote, on Friday at about 8pm, and the 23-year-old passenger was taken to Burton Queen's Hospital with serious, but not-life threatening, injuries.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club said Tom was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated overnight for a "suspected fracture and other associated injuries".

The club's match at Leicestershire tomorrow has been postponed.

In a statement, the club said: "Everyone at the club are deeply distressed and concerned for Tom and his family.

"In consultation with the ECB and Leicestershire CCC, the decision has been taken to postpone the LV County Championship Division Two game, which was due to start tomorrow at Grace Road.

"The fixture has been provisionally rescheduled to take place on Sunday 8 June to Wednesday 11 June.

"The Second XI friendly fixture between Derbyshire and Leicestershire, which was due to start at The 3aaa County Ground this week on Monday 7 April has also been postponed and will be moved to a date to be agreed."

Chief executive Simon Storey said: "We are a small close knit group here at Derbyshire and Tom's dad was well-known to our players and coaching staff.

"We are still trying to come to terms with the devastating news and at the moment our concerns are solely with Tom and his family at this difficult time.

"We are deeply indebted to the chairman, chief executive and director of cricket at Leicestershire CCC who have supported the decision to postpone the game. I am very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the opening fixture."

A statement from Leicestershire Cricket Club's website said: "Sunday’s match between Leicestershire CCC and Derbyshire CCC has been postponed.

"A Derbyshire player has been involved in a serious road accident in which a close relative has lost their life.

"As a mark of respect, the game has been postponed until Sunday, June 8, and the ECB has given their blessing to the request.

"Our thoughts are with Derbyshire CCC at this tragic time."

I was there at Canterbury on Monday and they were reasonably impressive, on a pitch which was not overly easy to score on.

Boyce actually looked half decent, back in an opening berth,

Greg Smith's LBW was laughable.

Spoke to a few of the lads after the game and Ben Smith, who is a top bloke!
