Derbyshire have made formal approaches for Leicestershire’s out-of-contract pair Shiv Thakor and Nathan Buck but face competition from other counties for both of them.

Ned Eckersley and Josh Cobb, two more out-of-contract Leicestershire players, are considering leaving Grace Road.

Essex have emerged as favourites to sign Eckersley, a wicketkeeper-batsman, as replacement for Ben Foakes as back-up to James Foster. Foakes is joining Surrey next season.

Northamptonshire are keen to recruit Cobb to strengthen their under-performing batting line-up and are in contract talks with the 24-year-old.

Where've you got this from.  I thought Eckersley had already signed for Essex & Thakor was about to resign for a year...

Wow, what a mess we are in when we are in danger of losing our 'better' players to Derby and Northants! Forget Eckersley he is going, Cobb and Buck are probably on more money at Lccc than Derby and Northants will pay, are they prepared to take a pay cut? Thackor not sure what's going on there but I don't believe Derby would be his ideal career move, and he needs to start scoring some runs. That just leaves Greg Smith, a bit of a forgotten man in the contract saga.

Watched a great finish to a game of cricket yesterday at Grace Rd, Leics 2nds were set 203 to win in 30 overs by Middlesex 2nds in a rain affected 50over semi final. Needing 28 off the final 2 overs we looked dead when that became 26 off 9, four sixes later and a 2 saw County win with 3 balls left!

Any notable performances?

Went down to the second half of our quarter final vs Warwickshire today, they always looked on top. 20/30 runs too many at 270, and from 20 odd - 2 we always looked underdogs. A lovely 90 from Ryder but no one stayed with him, no partnerships were built and there were too many starts without kicking on.

They've beat us in both of the quarter-finals this season, they're simply a better side. We always seem to look brilliant in the group stages and choke in the big games.

In the grand scheme of things, they'll always be one of the sides at a higher level than us - they're a test venue, after all.

It was also criminal for them to be just 2 down going into the last 15 overs, gave them a great foundation, one which we never had chasing.

Interesting that all 3 teams who are through to the semis have come from the other group, if Kent win then it's a clean sweep.

Shiv Thakor was offered a 2 year contract by us, he was thinking of staying for 1 year at least as I said before, but the club have treated him poorly, not just mismanaging his finger injury but keeping him out the team etc.

Anthony Ireland is being released for budgetary reasons, not bothered about that. Nathan Buck has a choice of Derbyshire or Lancashire, and it's looking like the latter will win his services.

Eckersley off to Essex, Cobb to Northants being rumoured about the place. Not sure on Greg Smith yet.

If any of you fancy a game next season, get in touch with the club!
