I think what disheartens me so much about our decline is knowing how good we used to be. I remember seeing Michael Bevan when I was younger, striding out from the Pavilion and getting ready to bat. I was there the day Devon Malcolm took a five for against a then newly promoted Sussex before their change in fortune.

What is going on at Grace Road? Sad to see yet more of our young players move to pastures new, but until someone changes the ethos of the club, we won't improve.

Wouldn't do Vichai, Top and Peter Tom any harm in driving down the road to give them some training!

We were (I think) the longest serving team in the first division of both formats from when it was introduced. Five years, just after winning County Championships and getting to cup finals. Massive counties couldn't match that.

This club has the potential to be a first division team, it needs someone to drag it up from top to bottom.

We are the laughing stock of county cricket and nobody seems to want to change that fact, just one shambles after another, the next 2 weeks promise more of the same bad news, Buck, Eckersley guaranteed to leave and more than likely Cobb and Smith. The only consolation being we are bottom of the league with these players playing for us so a change of personnel cannot make things worse.

Quotes from Cobb after the game

"The confidence within the team is not the best and there are a few off-field issues that might be having an effect.

There is a lot of talent in the team, some way, somehow, someone needs to find a way of bringing it out in the squad."

Sounds like he's crying out for a management change... if he stays

You begin to wonder if the ECB think we are capable of giving the other counties much of a contest. I do fear for the future of the club. sad to say it, but we are now a minor counties club in all but name.

I agree entirely with you, so as I put in a previous post why are the people in charge at Grace Rd not doing anything about it? It's one shambles after another, and if it continues our First class status will be taken away.

Shiv Thakor was offered a 2 year contract by us, he was thinking of staying for 1 year at least as I said before, but the club have treated him poorly, not just mismanaging his finger injury but keeping him out the team etc.

Anthony Ireland is being released for budgetary reasons, not bothered about that. Nathan Buck has a choice of Derbyshire or Lancashire, and it's looking like the latter will win his services.

Eckersley off to Essex, Cobb to Northants being rumoured about the place. Not sure on Greg Smith yet.

If any of you fancy a game next season, get in touch with the club!

Or Sussex.

Summed it all up today when Shiv Thakor announced that he would be joining a progressive club at Derbyshire. I know we have lost a few players to notts in recent seasons, but Derbyshire? This is a county that has not won a trophy since 1993. If the cricket club had just half the profile of Leicester city, Radio Leicester and the Leicester Mercury would be in meltdown.

Shiv Thakor, the boy who was hitting hundreds for Leicestershire U17's when he was just 13. He got a 100 on his f/c debut and ever since his progress has fallen to pieces, firstly because Whitticase wants to make him into a bowler and secondly because of the terrible way he was treated with his finger injury.

Agree mate, we could be really competitive again but there is just so much stuff going on that fails to improve our fortunes.

For one, I am all for giving kids a go - being relatively young myself in my 20s, it is great to see people of a similar age to me playing professional sports. However, as Nigel has proven, you need the right blend of youth and experience and the club rules about how many people need to be under 25 (I think it is) in the 11 is just preventing us from progressing. You can't just throw kids into the lions den and expect them to be good, especially when it's back to the wall time and you need some experienced heads to put things into perspective and instil confidence into the younger squad members.

All this comes back to when we were relegated to Division 2 but a management restructure is a must.

Can someone explain to me the finger injury situation? Was he not getting the right re-hab?

From Cricinfo:

Leicestershire allrounder Shiv Thakor is set to be out of action until the end of June after undergoing a second operation in two months to fix a troublesome broken finger which he played with throughout the 2013 season.

Thakor initially broke the middle finger of his left hand in the opening game of the England Under-19 tour of South Africa in January of last year, with the ECB insisting he return to the UK to have an operation as soon as possible.

But Leicestershire asked him to delay surgery so that he would not miss the start of the summer. As a result, the middle finger set in a position overlapping his ring finger, meaning he could barely grip his top hand onto the bat. Fielding was almost impossible, with Thakor having to go for almost everything with his right hand.

ESPNcricinfo understands Thakor wanted to undergo surgery straightaway, which would have meant missing the beginning of the summer. After consulting with specialists, Leicestershire advised against an operation, telling Thakor to manage the injury throughout the season, before seeking further help at the end of the year.

Despite the appearance of his finger and the pain he was suffering, he was not offered the option of a mid-season operation, despite consultations with a hand surgeon in London who felt the finger needed treatment straight away.

Eventually, almost 11 months after the break occurred, he went for surgery in Leeds, by which time complications had arisen. The first operation last December was supposed to correct the shape of the finger and allow it to bend, but the bone graft dissolved and the main joint was allowed to slide back into a bad position, making matters worse.

Whitticase at his finest

Why would we lose our first class status? Glamorgan were awful for years as were Durham when they first joined.  Agreed we are a bit of a shambles at present but so were LCFC and there is ALWAYS light at the end of.  Changes need to be made but money is a huge factor at present.   As we always say, Keep the Faith.   :chant:

A bit of a shambles? No Championship win for 2 seasons, no away win for 4, losing money every season, losing our young players, no overseas player, need I go on? You really think that nobody down at the ECB is questioning the worth of handing Lccc a million or so pounds every year only to see it squandered every season.
