Batted Nikko (and Boyce). Shame they couldn't have done that in the first innings...

Happened far too often all season. By my reckoning, when we've done well in the second innings, if we'd posted that score in the first innings instead, we had a definite 18 extra points and could have taken it on to another 23-24. Would have put us up to about 4th.

Great achievement for the young lad, doubt he will be with us at the start of next season if he wants to better his career though.

In an ideal world he'll see out his contract to 2012. Anyway, being at the bottom of the county championship doesn't seem to have done the England captain any harm.

They have now raced onto 306 for 5!

Hopefully we can secure the required points to finish above Middlesex.

465/6 - 2nd bowling point secured. 400 or more in our first innings will now guarantee that precious last but one spot. If we get another 3 wickets in the next 24 overs we'll only need 350 :)

So the last two wickets have added 421?

I really hope we finish above Middlesex.

County to stick with selection policy

Senior coach Tim Boon is determined to continue with Leicestershire's selection policy, despite the team picking up the County Championship wooden spoon.

He said finding the right blend of youth and experience is the key to improving the club's fortunes in the Championship, after defeat at Northampton consigned them to last place for the first time since 1962.

Leicestershire gained just three points when they needed five to edge ahead of Middlesex in the final standings.

But Boon is determined to continue with the policy of blooding young, home-grown players mixed in with consistent senior role models.

The County were too inexperienced against a strong Northants side with the scent of promotion in their nostrils.

Boon said: "Playing any top- level sport is about coping with pressure. The more experience we have, the more we learn to cope.

"We need to be patient and cannot move from the pathway we have set out on. But we need to get the right blend of youth and experience."

The other area of concern, Boon said, was the consistent failure to accrue batting points.

Boon said: "Injuries at the wrong times worked against us taking wickets. But had we picked up bonus points we wouldn't have finished in this position.''

If we were able to retain our top players, this attitude might make sense.

But as things stand, our decline towards minor county status looks like continuing.. :(

Once again we perform the best in the 20/20, hopefully we can become more competative next season. Jefferson in (hopefully), O'Brien playing as englishman and McDonald  Anyone want to guess other overseas for 20/20? Assuming O'Brien does finds away round being overseas im going for and Indian or Aussie. Perhaps Cameron White , James Hopes or another hard hitting allrounder/batsmen. No doubt im probably dreaming about these class of players but hopefully we dont end up with another Dinesh Mongia

I like your dreaming, bon't give up hope!!

Based on yesterday's game, the Kent game and the Middlesex game away, we just need to learn how to win. 3 close games, all lost when we were in a position to close it out. 98-5 and we defended yesterday rather than going for the throat. But we did carry a shit load of injuries which didn't help (Nixon just as he was getting going, new all innings behiond the stumps, and Whote, when he was looking pretty tasty).

As for a 2nd overseas player, Sachin!!!, full houses and a cosmopolitan atmos - would be quality!!!
