Best we can hope for now is almost certainly 2nd place as Middlesex play Sussex in the last round of games. Given that both of those teams have hugely superior run rates compared to us, unless that game is rained off or is a tie then one of them will finish above us, even if we beat Durham.

Back in the game yesterday then our “white ball specialist” threw away his wicket, we were ticking over nicely till then and needed 111 off 19 with 2 set batters in.

Didn't see any of our innings yesterday as I was at the KP so can't comment on Lilley's latest brain fart but it doesn't surprise me. Christ knows why the club thought it was a good idea to play Notts on a Saturday when City were at home on the same day and all other teams in our group played on Friday and Sunday.

So this new signing, Michael Finan. Aged 26. According to Cricinfo has played one second team game, for Yorkshire, this season. Took 5 wickets in a red ball two innings game, going at just under five per over. Taken a few wickets for Cheshire. Hmm.

Why have we got him in?

I think a lot of bowlers are out of contract at the end of the season, so it's a punt. He's a left armer too. His stats don't look that great to be honest, and he's 26. To go from signing a contract to joining the team and playing in a few hours was bizarre. I'm concerned we just have a habit of signing random players who then bloat the squad further.

Are we due to get a 2 point deduction tomorrow, just before our final group match?

I'm sure the ECB can think of something.  Grass too short?  Too many syllables in our name?  Car park not big enough?

I've heard it's for a pitch invasion on the family fun day.

"Like being back in the 80's" one source within the ECB was quoted as saying.

Had a 5 minute chat with Hassan Azad at the ground today Yorkshire also keen on Mike according to him

Seems  Hassan was right on the money about this one.Let's see if he's right about Charlie Thurston and Nathan Buck from Northants and Max Waller from Somerset on a one day contract

I think we'll miss his batting more than his bowling tbh. Also I think we already have a decent replacement in Tom Scriven.

Yep. I mean I get it when it's Yorkshire. It's dissapointing but I couldn't see him going to Derby etc. Its a move most young players would make.

Good luck to him

May have been an idea to give him until the end of the season see how he goes. I can't see to many other offers coming in.

Never played at this level so yet another gamble

A shame to lose Mike as he's consistently improved and often shown grit and determination when others have been folding this season. A deserved move for him though and I hope he thrives (in D2 where Yorkshire should be headed).

Equally I hope someone like Scriven or Walker can thrive in his place here. And I hope even more that with more consistent runs from the top 6 and a bowling unit that could actually take wickets they get an easier task than Mike often had when coming in at 7/8 or thrown the ball this season.

It’s probably best for Mike. He’s potentially a very good player but we know he doesn’t deliver all the time and is not economical.

Also sad for the game that somebody like Masood is leaving derby for Yorkshire. He’s been a great leader for them this season but us and them especially really can’t compete.
