I feel for Azad. Hopefully he gets a go somewhere, a very good red ball batter. Sadly as he says probably not the market there used to be for those, especially one who for all his strengths does score very, very slowly. England seemingly now looking for a run a ball or nigh on from ball one in tests probably says it all.

That being said if all the England hopefuls come out at the start of the season trying to do that against a Darren Stevens or a Chris Rushworth then all of a sudden Azad may be in demand.

Sam Evans has signed a new contract.

I want him to do well but he's got a big ask next season to justify us releasing Azad. Hopefully he scores heavily and at a strike rate at least over 40.

That's baffling isn't it really, I'd rather have kept Azad. How can we not seemingly justify red ball specialists but Lilley can stink the place up to play white ball.

May end up bowling to Steve Smith this summer. Be just our luck if this suspected three-game deal happens...

From an England point of view, nice to see us doing our usual of bedding in the Aussie players in English conditions before The Ashes...

There's no way the ECB should allow that kind of deal until the favour is reciprocated and CA allow English players to play in the Shield. That Smith one really irks me too because the bloke has previously shown no interest whatsoever in playing in the Championship. Labuschagne is a bit more understandable as he has committed to Glamorgan and has played for them for 5(?) years now, but Smith can get in the bin.

Yep that’s the ECB for you. Moan about the quality of red ball cricket but continually allow test match players to have spells over here to prepare themselves for test series

I'm a bit conflicted on Smith. Agree that it helps Australia but I can't help but feel it will be great for any cricket loving kids in Sussex to be able to head down to watch Steve Smith play at Hove.

Also the ECB could be playing a blinder, if he inevitably ends up knocking our attack about with ease for two days then it might lull him into a false sense of security.

Mulder going nicely opening for Durban in SA T20

His batting has come on really strongly since his time with us. He was always good and I think normally batted at 6 but he's hitting more big scores and looks like he could comfortably bat higher now.

Confirmed.

He’s excited to have a signed for “Leicestershire cricket county club” lol

Great signing - recruitment markedly on the up.

As for his language error, most people will have issues with alliteration in their 2nd/3rd languages (assuming they are actually capable of speaking more than one), so we'll let him off that one, I think.

Good to finally get the confirmation.

Arriving in June with another overseas for the start of the season set to be announced in February.

Wonder if that will be a specialist bat for the four day comp as a like for like for Rahane until he arrives. Or whether we'll target a bat for both four day games and the Blast though that would mean rotation between this player and Mulder in the Blast assuming Naveen is fit for all games. Or Mulder not playing t20 which would seem  a waste.

Given our shoddy four day batting I hope we prioritise a very solid batter for that format and trust Mulder with Naveen in the Blast.

An Australian maybe ahead of the Ashes? Not sure many batsmen would want to play in just the first months of an English season.
