Hill has gone from a decent keeper with the odd good knock in him to a very, very good specialist bat and been at that level for the last two seasons. Shows what's possible with hard work, probably our best player these days?

2021 he was superb wasn't he

Wash out but a winning draw at least, great to see us looking competitive again. Get another wicket and the second bowling point and it's as good as we could hope for, given the amount of play lost to the weather.

Still, all worth it so county cricket can be shoved aside in the height of summer though eh...

To be fair, bugger all people go to county games. Loads go to T20s. You can’t really blame anyone for wanting to schedule the most appealing games when it’s most likely to be nice

I'm not on about T20s, no issue with them being given prime slots. I'm on about all county cricket (Ashes too!) being shunted to accommodate that thing that's tanking millions of pounds and you can only watch live if you live in seven places, but is apparently the ECB's most important event of the summer.

Would prefer to see Scriven in the team ahead of Barnes or Salisbury tbh.

Agreed. From what I've seen Scriven's a better bowler and a better batter. He looks good enough to bat at 6 as a specialist bat if needed or play at 8 as a first change bowler.

Barnes is consistently picked as the latter but I think his bowling isn't good enough, first class average of 44 would back that up. He is however quite useful with the bat and has a good temperament so if I was Nico I'd have him working on that.

Salisbury has experience but based off what we've seen so far maybe not much else left in the tank unfortunately.

Harry Gurney who'd never have had a career without Lickle Owd Leicestershire either.

Made me laugh when he compared viewing figures from the first year of it to an EFL game on Sky Sports. Firstly every Hundred game was on a free to air channel (whether BBC or Sky Sports Mix), EFL games I'm assuming for the most part are viewed by fans of those teams, not many neutrals are overly arsed by Rotherham versus Millwall or whoever. Also find cricket far less tribal and most fans will watch cricket for the sake of it being cricket, like I'd happily watch random domestic leagues from around the world or test series between random nations. Also it's a new thing so you're bound to of had an initial interest from those just curious about watching it.

Handscomb not in the squad for the WTC game v India and first two Ashes tests. I take it there's no chance we can retain him even if he doesn't get selected for the rest of the Ashes.

Well I'm sure he'd be keen to stay in the UK in case of last minute Ashes injuries and he's also been keeping wicket so it's not like Rahane would be a straight swap as we'd need Hill to keep or need to crowbar Swindells into the XI. An interesting one.

I'm sure there are budgetary considerations too but if we get to June and Mulder isn't in great knick with bat and ball and Hanscombe has scored loads of runs over his 6 county games then it could be very interesting as there'd be a strong case to bring Rahane in for Mulder and try and keep Hanscombe in a settled side with the gloves if he would stay.

I think in reality it's more likely Mulder will find some form and as an all rounder and an existing commitment on the budget he'll play with Rahane and Hanscombe will be off.

Just realised our T20 match at Old Trafford is 12:30 on a Thursday(!!) with the Charlotte Edwards Cup following.

Even if I asked for the time off work I'm on Jury Service during that time (potentially) so that's a bummer. Luckily due to the change in time, I can refund it, but I enjoy going there to see us play.

Mulder is signed for white ball as well don't forget, so there's a commitment there. I'm sure there are also quite a few commercial agreements linked to the Rahane signing.

Naveen-ul-Haq playing for Lucknow in the IPL today.

Where have you seen this? Still listed as 18:30 on LCCC website. Was hoping to get up there for it
