When we won the competition in 2011, we literally batted down to 10 with Hoggard at 11. I think you’d stand a good chance if you played 6 batters and 5 all rounders.

Welch

Hill

Patel

Ackermann

Mulder

Kimber

Budinger

Scriven

Ahmed

Parkinson

Naveen

That would be a decent batting side if you could get enough overs out of Mulder, Ackermann and someone else.

I agree with this largely and feel that Nico"s team selections have been very poor so far; he's just not got the balance right at all.

My one possible change to your team would be to leave out Budinger in favour of Hull, who I think gives our attack some useful variety with his height and the fact he is a left armer. If we made that change we'd still have 6 front line batters, as well as 2 all rounders who can bat pretty well (surely 8 people who can score runs is enough in a 20 over game.), 4 seamers (in case 1 or 2 go round the park) plus 2 front line spinners as well as Ackers being able to bowl a few overs of spin.

I worry that having a batsman at number 7 who doesn't bowl is a bit of a waste but I do get that our batting is a real issue.

Scott Steel for Leicestershire in t20:

20 games, 500 runs, 26.32 avg, 4 50s, 114.4 s/r + 6 wickets at 49 and an economy of 7.47 from 39 overs.

Arron Lilley for Leicestershire prior to this season so no doubt average will have come down:

50 games, 1193 runs, 25.38 avg, 5 50s, 149.1 s/r + 10 wickets at 43 and economy of 8.39 from 51 overs.

But apart from Wiese you could say the exact same thing about Yorkshire?

Absolutely, and Ben Mike who struck the ball well. The batting was awful on both sides, if it was the pitch then adapt to what you’re playing on, I just think blaming the pitch is such an easy get out in cricket.

Scott Steel’s contract is up this autumn so, after 1st June he is entitled to start looking around for contracts elsewhere. He has only been playing club cricket in recent weeks and hasn’t featured for the second eleven since 24th May. I wouldn’t be surprised  if he has been told that he is surplus to requirements.

Lilley has certainly got a lot worse this season. Previously, he's typically chipped in with 15-30 runs with a strike rate of 150. This season he has been dreadful. His innings last night was laughably bad, like someone who'd never played professional cricket.

Ackermann back for tomorrow thankfully. Squad:

Ackermann*, Ahmed, Davis, Finan, Hill, Hull, Kimber, Lilley, Mulder, Naveen, Parkinson, Patel, Swindells+, Welch.

I'd pick:

Welch

Hill

Patel

Ackermann

Kimber

Mulder

Ahmed

Swindells (wk)

Parkinson

Naveen

Hull

Bats down to 8 with 3 spin options, 3 pace options and Kimber able to chuck an over in if needed.

If he can't get near the foxes side no chance any other side will want him

So he's picked a similar side but with Scriven in for Swindells and Salisbury for Naveen.

Anyone know anything about Naveen taking a knock?

Fielding is terrible again

The bowling is pretty terrible too. Isn’t the idea of cricket to try and hit the stumps not keep bowling 3ft down the off side so the batsman has all the advantages? Or a few Yorkers on a length which stops the big hits
