It would be good if that was true. But it would be very harsh on her parents if the article isn't true because it's just giving them false hope.

Remember the James Bulger incident. 35 People spoke to or seen the 2 boys lead the 2 year old away and not one of them called the police despite James having cuts and bruises to his face (apparently)

I know its in a different country but it tends to be the same everywhere, people have an attitude of 'not my problem'.

There have been incidents where children have been 'lost' and when anyone approaches them the parents have come on scene accusing them of being perverts or attempting to abduct thier child.

As for keeping it in the news, I cant blame them one bit. If my children were to go missing I would do everything in my power to find them. I would probebly still be in portugal, having said that my children are my life and under no circumstances would I have left them on thier own.

I hope that Madeline is found and I also hope that nothing degrading has happened to the girl. Her parents will have to live with whatever consequences for the rest of thier lives and unfortunatly they put themselves in that position.

Sadly this is self-promotional fluff from the Private investigators.

They have talked Maddie parents into signing a six-month contract worth hundreds of thousands of pounds on the promise that they can find her, and they regularly brief the press that they are close to a breakthrough, but thay never come up with any thing tangible or independently verifiable.

I wish it was otherwise, but I think all we are seeing is maddies parents being publically fleeced by an agency that has no idea where she is, but do have a willingness to shamelessly exploit her parents desperation for financial gain. I would love to be proved wrong, but there is not a shred of evidence to suggest that I will be.

S'funny how those ugly organs on the sides of one's bonce suddenly start functioning whenever the hacks give the ol' rumour mill a crank.

But as you are in the demographic for my performing seal show, TPD, I'll indulge you...a little.

This is not the first time that Francisco Marco has made this claim. The only thing new here is the introduction of a seasonal deadline (back in time for Xmas). He (and/or the media) are clearly toying with the public's festive sensibilities (Maddie's return being analagous to the birth of Jesus).

Marco may indeed be bilking the McCann's as previous posters have suggested (to put it more accurately, their benefactors). Unfortunately, financial gain may not be his only motive.

I think that it is more than a coincidence that a lot of the (false?) trails in this saga lead to Spain.

If this thread is anything to go by I detect a shift in attitude towards the McCanns. In the halcyon days of this topic there were many more posters who doubted the abduction theory. Now the wind appears to be in the sails of those who speculate whether Madeleine might still be alive.

Whilst one must always keep an open mind on these matters, sadly, I feel it is most unlikely that she is alive or that her remains will ever be found.

Yes I have a very compelling theory as to why Madeleine was taken. But I am going to hold off from sharing it until there is a true revival of interest on this thread in the case. This, no doubt, will be sparked by some dubious 'development' (ie recycled tosh) or 'anniversary' that will have the hacks frothing.

But here's a bit of red meat for you Mr Zingari seeing as you've been more curious than most...

Madeleine police meet in Britain

Portuguese detectives have met forensic scientists in the UK to discuss DNA samples examined as part of the Madeleine McCann investigation.

A spokesman for her parents said they do not see the meeting as significant.

The samples studied by the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham relate to materials taken from the car hired by the McCanns after the disappearance.

The meeting comes as a new advert blitz began in Spain that campaigners hope will lead them to Madeleine.

'Ongoing investigation'

A four-strong Portuguese team spent six-and-a-half hours at the Leicestershire Police headquarters in Enderby with Forensic Science Service specialists.

The summit was intended to give Portuguese investigators the chance to talk to the UK-based forensic scientists who have been carrying out various tests in the months since the child disappeared.

The Portuguese officers - who, according to reports, included Francisco Corte-Real, vice-president of Portugal's forensic crime service - were taken from the premises out of sight of the waiting media.

A Leicestershire police spokeswoman said they would not be making any statements.

Kay Francis, the FSS director of communications, added: "It's a live, ongoing investigation, therefore we cannot go into any details."

Representatives have travelled to the UK from Portugal before, in the early stages of the investigation.

This report appeared on the BBC website. Given the media hysteria over the McCann abduction I found it odd how the hacks treated this sudden development (the public were only informed on the eve of the visit) with indifference. No live shots of their arrival on the rolling news channels, and shifting/conflicting details about members of the police party, their itinerary and length of stay.

And considering the war of words between Rothley and Portimao I found it utterly bizarre how the Porto-plods passed up the chance to re-interview the infanticidal McCanns and their evil accessory medics at large the 'Tapas Seven.'Seems like they missed an open goal doesn't it? But that's what happens when games are rigged.

Don't forget that the McCanns requested arguido status in order to avoid questions concerning the "evidence" in the Renault hire car. So interviewing them would probably meet with the same response. Also, they require government permission to interview them.

Interesting, also, that the tapas group met in secret to sort their stories out when rumours surfaced of a visit from the PJ.

If you scratch beneath the surface, as is your nature, there is one hell of a lot of high level government interference in this case. And I mean right up to Gordon Brown.
