How Was Your Day?

Recommended Posts

If you don't work they will fire you which will make it harder to find another job or claim JSA. OK when living with parents I suppose

Read something today that says if you change jobs a lot it puts employers off so if you have had too few or too many in a set period you stand less chance than those that have a job and stick with it until something better comes along.

Correction, it's a 0 hour contract so I don't have to accept any shifts

It's almost certain your contract will include parts saying you will be expected to accept reasonable amounts of additional hours to the 0 hours in your weekly/monthly schedule, otherwise there'd be absolutely no reason for there to be a post in the first place.

"Can you do overtime this week?"

"No chance. I did my zero hours last week, I did my zero hours this week."

"Fair enough. We won't ask again."

People should stop replying to Lamby. It's quite clear he is trolling us, he's probably sat at home laughing at how much people still bite about his job situation.

Have to say I'm beginning to think your right, I mean 'I have nothing to do with the money'.

Yeah right.

Belated happy birthday Mac. Seems like there are a lot on here around the same age - myself included.

Just what I was thinking.

How can I do overtime when it's only open for events on weekends?

I've said I could do midnight til 5:30am if needed, that way I can still go out tonight

Have to say I'm beginning to think your right, I mean 'I have nothing to do with the money'.

Yeah right.

I don't have anything to do with it, I have £185 in my bank and I don't go out ever and don't need anything.

Save? Invest?

Pay for a qualification to better yourself seeing that your weeks are free?

If the job is only weekends, why are you not doing other jobs during the week??

One day I'll write out all the jobs I did while at school and uni. Just to make sure I could get my qualifications and better myself. I was the first to go to uni in my family. Sure, my dad wanted me to go and supported me, but I still had to do jobs to supplement my support.

Lazy gits like you make my blood boil.

Don't you think I'm not trying to get one? I need to get out of my shithole place asap, which means finding a job first, which is hard when nobody can be arsed to train you up and only want experience and a degree.

What jobs are you trying to go for?! Aim your sights realistically.

Have you ever done a paper round? (Do they exist any more)

Have you worked night shifts at DHL?

Have you carried fabric at a factory?

Have you worked at a screen printers?

Have you washed pots?

Have you waited tables? (In many different restaurants)

Have you cooked?

Have you cleaned toilets?

Have you cleaned cars?

Have you manned the phones at a call centre?

Have you worked at curries selling washing machines?

All jobs I did while doing GCSE, a-levels and my degree. Oh and I worked full time while doing my masters.

But ALL the previous jobs required zero experience or a degree. They just required me to work hard. To get ahead you say yes to all the sh1tty jobs and overtime. Get that experience and grow.

So, no. I don't think you are trying. You could be getting extra pay and using your weekdays to get a qualification to get the next better job.

But you always seem woe is me rather than just getting on with it.

We all think the world is against us, some of us learn the rules of the game and work our way out of it.

By the looks of things some new clothes wouldn't go amiss.

I'll be honest if I was Lamby at his age i don't think id do jobs like toilet cleaning, paper round, pot washing. he doesn't have any responsibilities so its not necessary.

I'd be looking at picking up some sort of skill.

How old is he 23?? He might not have responsibilities but surely he wants to earn money to go on holiday with his mates, weekends away with the lads, and basically do what any other normal young lad does.

He's got no intention of trying to better himself or get qualifications to get a decent job. To be honest judging by the amount of rubbish he posts on here cleaning toilets sounds about right for him.

He also has no experience. Doing the crap jobs makes employers know you are willing to work and they give you more opportunities. This kid wants the world to fall in his lap.

Edit: I suggested he gets more hours and money to pay for more qualifications. He ignored that suggestion and moaned all the jobs he wants require experience and a degree. I was explaining what I did to get experience and my degree.

i was on the dole straight out of school, couldn't even get a part time job, no experience, no employment. dole gave me a shit job in greggs for no wage for 2 months, but still pay me dole. 18 months later the area boss of william hill keeps asking me if i want to do a deputy managers course so i can become full time on managers pay in a shop round here. i haven't said i'll do it yet because i don't need to be full time, i quite like 20 hours then do a full time week if i'm not busy, no footy etc. i might give it a try though.

basically the point is do the bullshit and you can get further. and i genuinely enjoy work. probably won't stay here for life, wanna do some extra stuff in college or night school then get an even better job, but to get the good jobs you've gotta do the shit ones, do what you're told, get on with people. not just ignore them when they offer you hours.

They had 6 days to text me any hours, they leave it til the last minute. At least once a month I get told my hours only 5 hours before I'm supposed to start them, its badly organised sometimes. I already had half my plans for tonight made already, so if they can't work around what hours I want to do then it's not my fault.

To be fair to Lamby, he's singlehandly managed it doubt my trust for all benefits claimant I'll ever meet.

If I did not know better I might feel the same which is why I said some things do not add up.

Questions to Lamby

1 Are you still claiming full or partial JSA?

2 If so have the job centre suggested you go on a work programme

3 are you declaring your wage and hours

4 If you are kicked out the house do you have £1000 plus deposit needed to put down on a place of your own -assuming you can find a landlord willing to take someone on who is on benefits (latest figures show 75% or more do not)

5 If you do get a place of your own how long are you hoping to stay there without going into arrears given that you may have to  pay for rent (under 25's cannot claim HB CT?) electric, heating food and other essentials before going onto booze betting football  TV internet travel women condoms makeup porn mags etc?

6 Have you considered volunteer work during the week.. This may be plugging the cause I am involved with but if you worked with the homeless it would open your eyes to what could happen and you may not be so casual about your situation.

1) Partial JSA, get £22 a week. They still owe me about £150 in full benefit money from when I wasn't working a couple of weeks ago

2) I went on one before and it didn't end well, there was talk of me going on one again but I just plain told them no and nothing came of it

3) I used to, but then they stopped giving me the forms to declare.

4) I won't be kicked out my house

5) I'm not planning to move out anytime soon to get a place of my own

6) Volunteer work is alright, but I'm at an age where I'd rather be paid for work than do it for free.

Lotion at the ready but no tissues then?
