How Was Your Day?

Are you thinking of going back into work?

Not full time It is to do with The Real Junk Food Project (no acronym) that I do a little volunteering for. It is kitchen based.  They have given the opportunity for the regulars to train and will reimburse the cost. As I have been doing it  virtually from the start I am one of the lucky ones.

Just did it and passed twice. only need 75%. First time I think I got 4 wrong 80% 2nd scored 29/30 96.67%. Thought the score would be on the certificate but its not. The questions were very easy. Multi-answers and most 3/4 were silly choices leaving one obvious. The ones I got wrong I had a choice between two possibles and guessed the wrong one. Think you need around 22/30 for a pass.

I am not surprised that there are still food premises in a disgusting state but the law is strict and penalties high.

Shouldn't they be employing youngsters in the kitchens Ken?  Not like you are going to kick off a career with this newfound experience is it?

I find it more worrying people need to be taught how to keep something clean.

Although judging by the amount of places that seem to fail these tests I shouldn't be surprised. Not to mention the amount of people I see leaving men's toilets without washing their hands. :(

Capitalism at work. Get everyone to take (and pay for) a pointless certificate and the business can blame (and sack) their staff if something goes wrong. It's all about shifting responsibility and risk from the boardroom down to the worker while also hitting them in the pocket. Wonderful isn't it?

It is volunteering so there are all ages attending. Some also have jobs and experience in catering either through work or their family life. Before starting they were inspected and had to pass to certain guidelines. The opportunity is being offered to just the regulars.

I did not have to accept and it is not essential to have the certificate but I have done it for myself.

Buce if I was younger it would not be useless. Most catering establishments ask for this and a person stands a better chance of getting a job if they have one. Where I am they follow the rules, use a food thermometer, clean surfaces, check dates etc. They have to because if an inspector showed up they would be shut down.

Sorry I mentioned it.

I've been very surprised by the age of the players, I'd say average is about 35-40 over the league.

More importantly it's a wonderful excuse to tour the pubs of Leicestershire.

The Legion tried to get me to join their skittle team a few years ago but I was so crap I could barely hit the table lol. I know a few of them though and they go all over the county, very good for socialising.

Pub sports are great, I used to play pool and it was a great laugh. We were in a division once with the The Rocket, Good Neighbours, Scarlet Pimp, Midland, Manchester and Merry Monarch.

Saw some sights that season, one match got delayed for an hour as they needed to use the pool table for the stripper to disrobe an 80 year old on his birthday.

They are great for socialising.

Not sure what pentanque is. Guessing it may be cards. or maybe to do with boulles.

There is a domino league starting in October. Been asked to play for the  Kings Head again.

That will be

Monday Poker

Tuesday Dominoes

Wednesdays Boardgames

Thursdays Blood Bowl

Friday Social

Saturday  Football

Its a hard life.

Them Tory governments eh Ken, evil.

Petanque is boules, although often a strange version of it with different rules in every pub you visit.

I've seen them in Age Concern (now Age UK) shops. Some old bugger popped his clogs so the missus gives away his prize possessions.

Some rough pubs in that league. One of the places on the dominoes circuit is the Conny Club on Saffron Lane near to where the stadium was. Decent people in there.

Scarlet Pimp and The Manchester have closed down now haven't they?

Never went in them personally but I've heard some funny stories about things that have happened there.

Worse pub I've been in is probably The Midland, remember being in there one Friday night when it kicked off. The landlord brought his Alsatian down to scare people and some bloke ended up killing the poor thing.

Yesterday was a good day as i finally brought myself a new car. BMW 3 series 2 litre diesel 56 plate 106k miles with immaculate interior and exterior, 12 month warranty with MOT due 10/09/2016 and FSH with last service on 10/09/2015. £4100. Great price compared to some of the other BMW's i was looking at. Pick it up on friday.

Today though straight from work its off to the dentist to have a tooth removed. So a great day yesterday, shit day today to then a great day tomorrow.

Rock and roll lifestyle

Yeah they are both closed, I think the Midland has as well now.

That place was incredible, only place I've ever been in where I saw a handgun being passed around without a care in the World between a group of people.
