Good luck mate, I wanted to collect them in person but they were on the online system and I couldn't resist.

Just got them. Got an A in Maths, History, Economics and General Studies and a B in German which I am delighted with.

Well, my days have been quite busy recently. My Dad died last week, 19 months after my Mum.

No condolences required, really, as his death feels very different to my Mum's. Whereas she could have enjoyed a few more years (though she was 80), my Dad was 91, in a debilitated condition and only going to get worse.

I was on the point of arranging a hoist for him to be moved between bed and chair as he'd lost the ability to stand in his last week. He'd been at ease with the idea of going for some while. If anything, he'd rather have gone sooner.

He certainly provided some moments of black humour towards the end. More than once, he asked me if I'd organised his funeral yet - and even whether I could arrange for his coffin to be placed in his bedroom for ease of transfer when he went (he always was scrupulously well organised! :D). After his carer had shaved him and combed his hair, he asked "Will the devil take me now, do you think?" lol

Obviously, there have been a few tears and I'll miss greatly the Dad I knew and loved, but he was better off not hanging around any longer. Sadder for us than for him. He'd led a great life, coming from the bogs of the West of Ireland to a nice white-collar career in England, a happy marriage and family, many glasses of good cheer with friends, cycled all over England, France & Spain in the 50s, walking holidays in Greece (climbing Mount Olympus at 70), got a First Class OU degree in his fifties and an Italian A-level in his seventies. At 86, after he'd just been diagnosed with Parkinson's, my Mum had to tell him off for climbing an apple tree to do a bit of pruning.

After he'd died, I Google-searched his name and it took me to a Navy forum. Five years ago, some woman in Scotland had been trying to contact him for her Irish mother, an old girlfriend, as she'd discovered his love letters dating back to 1949, the old goat!

Am currently organising his funeral almost solo, as the day after Dad's death, my brother came off his bike and ended up in hospital (only minor injuries, now discharged, fortunately). Will soon be back to sort you fvckers out, though!

"Enjoy life" is the lesson here, I think!

Guest MattP

Sorry to hear that Alf, hope you are now both at peace.

Sounded like your Dad really enjoyed his life and lived it to the full, as you say, a lesson to us all.

Cheers, I'm studying Maths

Congrats! I've just finished a maths (&stats) degree, and it sets you up fantastically for after you graduate. So many different choices and pathways available to you, as well.

I had one friend who loved engineering so took all the applied modules like Analytical Dynamics, and is now on a mech eng masters, one friend who is a genius at pure maths and is now doing a PhD, and I decided I wasn't keen on either, so specialised in stats, with a few CompSci modules and MathEducation ones thrown in the mix. Incredibly diverse subject, so enjoy :D And do a placement year if you can, well worth the experience.

I started my grad role (data analyst, consulting) about a month ago, and that's not quite going so well to be honest. Applied because it was one of the few jobs available in Leicester, but I've been based in Liverpool 4 days a week (nice city, not what I signed up for though) and in a few weeks might be on a project in London 5 days a week, but on a (relatively) low Leicester salary. Neither project role is Data Analysis, either...

Hate to do it so soon after starting, but it's not at all what I was looking for when I applied so going to take a bit of time and see what else is out there, and wether or not I should stay put....

Adulting is hard.

Over the moon with my A2 results today. Recovered from my horrific AS results (DDE) to come out with BBC - nothing special, but I'm very happy indeed. :D

Back when I did my A Levels I was the other way round! Smashed AS results (AAAA) and came out with BBC - suffice to say my AS results carried me through lol

Thanks for the insight, I'm looking forward to starting, and it will be interesting to see what modules I end up doing, as I'm not 100% sure the areas of Maths I want to pursue the most.

Best of luck with your grad role and whatever option you decide to go with... I quite enjoy the part time job with little responsibility at the moment lol
