How Was Your Day?

Long life with no steak and chips or a bar of chocolate ...     No thanks.   ;)

It's not so much about long life, CF, it's about quality of life in old age.

Before my daughter was born, I was into hiking long distance trails, and I'd like to get back to it when she's grown. By that time, though, I'll be in my sixties and it isn't easy hauling a 20kg pack up the side of mountains, so I need to take care of my health and fitness. I don't find avoiding saturated fat and sugar too much of a sacrifice, tbh.

lol She's a fabulous kid, but she's not keen on roughing it.

Actually, 20kg is probably an exaggeration: some of the modern ultra-light hiking gear is measured in mere ounces. I was recently reading a hiking journal by someone who had hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (one of the 'Triple Crown' of American Hiking Trails, and an ambition of mine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Crest_Trail ), and his base-weight pack (everything except food and water) was under 5kg. That said, it's largely a wilderness hike with limited chances to resupply, so he was packing something like 10kg of dehydrated food at some points.

I've been a veggie (with the occasional enforced lapse when travelling in remote areas) for 35 years, and have avoided sugar for about 20 years, so I'm pretty much set in my ways, mate.

Last Thursday, my wife started a nose bleed that was so bad, that the blood was coming out of her eyes. I called the paramedics who took her to the ER, after 5 hours they let her go home.

Yesterday my wife and I reached our 50th wedding anniversary. We were due to celebrate it with my daughter and her family at a local restaurant.

At 1:30 pm my wife left the house for an appointment but returned immediately with another nose bleed. By 4:30pm it had only stopped intermittently so I took her to the Immediate Care office nearby. They managed to get it stopped but as soon as we got home it started again.

Like before it would stop and start but by the early hours I we were back in the car driving to the ER. This time they inserted a compression balloon which has fixed the bleeding until we can see an ENT doctor. We got home at 5am this morning.

That was our day!!

I used to know someone with constant nose bleeds, they had to cauterise his nostrils in the end. IIrc it didn't fully cure it even then.

Congrats for the 50th anniversary btw.

Thanks Webbo :)

I had offered her the option of me operating with my BBQ lighter but she declined.

The doctor said cauterizing was an option but he didn't think he could access all of the wound so couldn't stop the bleeding. He opted for the 'balloon' until she could get specialist treatment.

Just got back from the Black Country Museum, brilliant day and the fish and chips they do there are worth the entrance alone. Not sure I'd have gone though if I'd have realised it was 60 miles away.

lol

Where did you  think the Black Country is, Webbo?

At a Speed Awareness course.

Death by boredom.

I actually found it quite interesting and informative - I learnt loads!

And I was sat next to a well fit bird all day which helped pass the time
