How Was Your Day?

Recommended Posts

Great start to the day, got a call back from the manager of the place where I applied for a bar job last week, asking me to come in tonight. :D It's not much but at my age I'm in no position to complain.

Not a great day at jobcentre. They seem to think I should apply for every job and be head of the queue. They mentioned one job that was picked out for me last time I saw an advisor. It was a gate house security at a young offenders prison. After looking at the full details I thought it was not for me. But Oh no I was told it was perfect and would not have been selected if not suitable. Well i don't want to have to control a crowd of ASBOS at my age.

Just sent some emails off for jobs. Doubt I will get a reply. They have kept my job search card so dont know the previous ones I applied for. Got to see somebody tomorrow.

Going to see someone soon who is involved in putting a book together about Highfields. They want my story about living there seeing I have been in the area since early 80's.

Good but eventful day at work.

Had my Performance Development Review. My boss had no concerns with myself and all other managers never have a bad word to say about me (which apparently is quite rare (personality clashes etc...). She couldn't think of anything negative about me or my performance in my role, which to me felt quite flattering .

Apart from that, there was an incident with one child. I couldn't believe it when I heard what had happened. Thought it was some kind of joke. where they were pissing themselves (literally) in one of the isles, getting it all over some items of clothing, meaning they had to be thrown away.

And there were also 2 pikeys trying to shoplift; they also had a 3-week old baby. Their plan was to have the clothes in hand (with security tags ripped out), get someone at the door to pick the baby up, and then run out of the store with the stolen clothes. Luckily, one of the duty managers saw it and police were there quite quickly. Both pikeys were arrested :D.

lol.

It's not the first time we've had pikeys try that sort of thing. They've 'settled' nearby to our retail park, so they obviously see our store as a target. They've even tried hiding a basketful of clothing on occasions. They don't realise that the store does get tidied by us the staff members when all the customers have gone home lol.

It was a nice sight to see police officers cuff them up and take them away!

After my dad died of Cancer last year,my mum decided to volunteer to work at the Cancer Research Shop for a couple of hours a week. They are always getting pikeys coming in stealing.i dont think you can get any lower than doing that considering where the money goes.

Couldn't agree more. My grandad died of cancer last year and to think people are stealing from a cause that is raising awareness and money to prevent/cure that horrible disease is utterly sickening.

Had my first four poems for Creaky Bones proof read this morning. May need a final proof read when the rest are done.

This afternoon met someone involved with putting a book together about South Highfields. Interviewed me. Just about told my life story. The book will have some funding and should be out July time. She asked to use a couple of my poems. That should reduce the sales if not my ugly mug if they decide they want a picture as well.

I know I have a thread with my writing but I'll make another for the proof read ones. I'll post as they are done. Just need to know if they sound OK when read.

I finished working my shift at the gym by had a couple of clients to see after.

So I am clearly working in a 1:1 situation with people, and have taken my gym branded clothes off and replaced with my own branded shirt.

STILL members interrupt my sessions...

"Excuse me mate, can you just..."

"Sorry pal, I'm with a client, you will have to come back during staffed hours"

But can't you just do......."

"Again, I'm sorry mate, but I am busy with a client who is paying for my time and attention. Come back between 8am and 8pm tomorrow and someone will help you"

"but can't you just....."

"FVCK OFF!!!!!"

The gym is manned 12 hours a day, yet still they want to have their problems looked at and don't have the social wherewithal to see that I am deeply involved on a personal level with somebody else at that time.

Some, not all, of our members are so rude it betters belief.

I hope the relationship works out for you and that someone sees sense and changes the marriage law.

Got my first lot of shifts for the Olympics and Paralympics today. Makes it feel all the more real knowing when I'll be working! Start on 1st August for a a few days.

:D. Happy days. Great week so far.

What does the job involve Stan? I wanted to apply but never got round to it, wish I had now.

I'll be a Flower/Medal Bearer for sports at Eton Dorney and North Greenwich Arena.

There's tons of other volunteer roles, but I got selected for that :).

I expect all roles are filled. I did mention about stewarding but tbh I don't have to cash to live down London even for a fornight and lodging is paid for. I think I did put my name down somewhere but not heard anything. Thought my work situation would be sorted out sooner.

Had to see someone at the jobcentre. Signing on day yesterday but they were not happy with what I had been doing. Told today my case was going to be reviewed. 40 plus years plus non stop in work and 9 months out and I am regarded as a cheat.

One thing was I saw an advisor a few weeks ago and they suggested a job. When I got home I researched a bit more (a security gate person at Glen Parva yoth detention centre) and I thought it less suitable than I had thought so I never applied, so now they say I should have because they picked it out as suitable. I should ruddy well know what I am capable of. I would have to body search, escort to cells and report 16-18 ASBOS for being late from home leave. Just could not see me doing that.

So I am now going to apply for every job that comes through on my job alerts filling a card a week. You are required to do three proof of looking a week. But the majority that come through are out of Leicester or wrong job type the others I get no reply. I think I need to put more info down though they want to know who where and when you applied to. Sent Email - had no reply is not good enough.

Don't be so defeatist!! Embrace the challenge.

I doubt very much that I would even be considered for the job. Wrong age, and wrong physical build. On paper it looked great for a start. I thought it was just assisting but the duties required were much more. I'll see if it comes available again and apply.
