I met someone yesterday, a woman, who I had a fairly short relationship with many years ago. She went of to work in a hospital in Middlesex and I went in another direction. We met at a lunch party hosted by a supplier. I can't believe how its made me feel? I am happily married, with grown up kids, I lech at the hottest celebs and Milf forums etc. but I am uber faithful, never had a wandering eye. Yet this (beautiful) woman has made me feel very uncomfortable with myself. Weird. She works on the account team that looks after my company, I will meet her again at various meetings and functions. I could send someone i my place of course, but I'm not sure I want too. I am feeling guilty as feck, but can't stop thinking about her.

I am a sad old fool, who should know better.

I'm sure it is based on the sound of the letter/word not the spelling. Hence F is "eff" and thus "an" is correct.

I'm just going from what I remember when taught but that was a few years ago. I'll let an English teacher decide.

BunkMoreland's got it right, it's all determined by the initial sound of the word. So you use 'an' before a vowel sound (eg an 'ess') and 'a' before a consonant sound (eg a 'yoo-niversity). If that makes sense?
