How Was Your Day?

It's ****ing depressing that a bit of community building is considered crazy and laughable by a younger person.

(SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE MAGGIE!?)

Seriously, though, these sort of things are excellent, particularly for older members of the community or newer members of the community who may not know people locally. As some silly little boy who I imagine is still at school, you're rife with peers your age to socialise with. Not everyone else is.

My mam, while she was still in Leicester, loved stuff like this for meeting people and what not. Cracking way to avoid boredom, especially at retirement age, really commendable. I hope it takes off.

My Mum and Dad thought it was flaming hilarious, and stupid.

And they are 60.

Some old people have a different opinion shocker.

Seriously chap, your parents may not see the point in it, but let's be honest, they were responsible for you, so they can't be the sharpest tools in the box - it's a good idea to get people engaging with each other.

Over Small Violins and Vegetable Seedlings.

Yeah good one.

Knowing the area, I doubt anybody will knock on her door.

also some small violins(YES VIOLINS - RANDOM I KNOW)

All violins are small. They are the smallest in the violin family (Violin - Viola - Cello - Double Bass)

Knock on her door and find out what these small violins are, since we may have a new entry to that family? A new baby member?

Or is she just clarifying for people that violins are small?

Maybe its a set of children's violins?

I'm intrigued. Go round immediately.

Yep, full time Welshman. Spend my days growing leeks, roasting lamb (behave) and singing hymns.

That your parents are as moronic and obtuse as the afterbirth they spawned is hardly unbelievable.

Didn't get the job :(. It was for a role within the Housing department (I'm in Finance currently), but their feedback pointed towards not having enough relevant experience compared to other candidates who were already currently working in a sub-section of the Housing department. Tried my best though and tried to give enough solid examples in experience I did have, and on top of the positive feedback, I was encouraged to keep looking out for similar opportunities, which I shall!

Still, had nothing to lose and gave it my best shot.

Just hope tonight goes better!!

Got back from Exeter yesterday, so much poontang about it was unreal.

But today, I got a leaflet through my door this morning, I know someone or some of you on here live on or near Collingham Road, so you might of got one as well.

This leaflet was absolutely hilarious, from a woman called Zina Zelter wanting to do a swap, share and save group.

She gives examples of things people could share in the area...I have a laminator and large cooking pans which people could borrow - also some small violins(YES VIOLINS - RANDOM I KNOW)

She carries on by saying, I could teach people how to make bread and vegan cakes - YES VEGAN CAKES!!!

I sometimes have vegetable seedlings which I'd like to give away - To be honest love, I prefer buying Carrots and shit from the CO-OP.

Maybe we could get together she says - occasionally swapping things like plant seeds, seedlings(she loves the seedlings), fabrics etc...

One the other side(yes there is another side  ) she says ideas of kind things we might offer and want - In the want section, she gives an example by saying, people could want to learn how to prune fruit trees(Yet again very random).

Proper crazy, and I certainly had to laugh.

lol we got one of these I bet its that woman with the dread locks.... crazy fruit top.

she always parks in my ****ing space as well the bastard.

Hope so. I'd be more upset if I didn't have a job right now. But it's that old adage of not having enough experience for a job, but no-one is willing to give that experience out!

LCC?

Nah. It's at a housing asssociation in Bedford.

Yeah, you need to be able to think a little creatively and bring in things you do in your job or at home that have applied skills or experiences you can twist a little.

That'll be hard if you're making such a huge jump between sections, though.

There may be people without direct experience in the role, who are at your level, who will just have had a bit of a headstart on you by already being in housing where they'd have a bit more hands on experience with tenants.

You're probably in the right place, we'll all by housing associations sooner or later. We (LCC) have some huge think tanks on the go at the moment because we know that if our repairs service doesn't get in line with the private sector sharpish, we'll be sold off.

To answer your previous question, I co-ordinate repairs to council housing stock.

Yeah, I used experiences from my other current job as well as previous jobs quite heavily, but maybe I didn't emphasises on them enough and apply them to the role efficiently.

And yep, agreed - I was up against 2 candidates who were already in that sector. Even though I deal with tenants, it's very rarely, if ever, face-to-face. This role I went for involved visiting tenants and heavily consisted of customer-service. The 2 in-house candidates probably had more relevant experience in visiting tenants and communicating with them directly as opposed to over the phone. But I tried to use all my customer-service skills as best as possible but wasn't enough! As you say, I probably need to be a bit more creative with my answers when it comes to that.

Our HA is currently undergoing a big restructure, so I'll be on the look-out for any other jobs that arise.

I take it what you went for was essentially a Housing Officer post? Managing the properties / tendencies? First point of contact for tenants?

Does require quite a lot of experience with tenants. You could try asking for work experience in the section or looking to do admin over there if you want to get in. Tenant contact centres are good places to get a lot of experience with tenants too.

It was for a Tenant Services Co-Ordinator - focussing on aids and adaptations for disabled people who need better access in their homes. Yeah I've been encouraged to do some job-shadowing within the Housing area (including Housing officers), so once that is done, at least I can draw up on that experience and use that to my advantage.

Unlucky Stan.
