How Was Your Day?

lol I occasionally succumb to a dirtburger on the way to the ground. I can't help it, I have no self control.

Ive certainly bought stuff from outside the ground more often than in. At least its cheaper.

Have you seen the gourmet burger narrow boat on the canal by the boating lake? Assuming they're there this season. Pricey but nice

Not bad - thesis is going fine and getting enough pocket money through tutoring on the side to live off, but still concerned about the future. Must be closing in on triple-figure job applications this year with (hopefully) a Masters degree soon to be in the pocket, some in the aerospace engineering sector, some not. Got invited to 3 assessment/interview days thus far. Reckon I'm getting beaten by experience when I apply for the classical 'direct entry' office jobs and just one in hundreds for the specific aerospace jobs.

Well, I've always got the contingency of running back to Korea with my tail between my legs, I guess. Probably going to have to put that in motion, and it'll buy me some time and enable me to save some dough. Really not enamoured with the idea of going on the dole here and the Job Centre are pretty useless for anything other than signing on the dotted line (can't say that I blame them for that given the size of the problem) so buying that one-way flight ticket might be my only option.

A bit surreal to put it mildly! Fiancée has always been told she is unable to have children, 3 different pregnancy tests later it looks like we may have got lucky! Had resigned myself to a life with no kids but nearly sh!t myself when she pulled the first 2 positive tests out to show me.

congrats!

Still can't believe it, dont think i will until I hear it from the doc. The amount of crap luck we have put up with over the last 2 years is unreal, most likely wont believe it until little one pops out! Just hope nothing else shits on us!

Congratulations mate.

Happened to my friend and his wife. She was told she wouldn't be able to have children years ago. Then about 4 years ago she got pregnant and had a little boy. 2 years later she was pregnant again and they had another boy.

In the nicest possible way, assuming you are studying aerospace engineering, you must have known beforehand that the number of people graduating would far exceed the number of relevant available? Edited by MooseBreath

I'm studying Astronautics and Space Engineering, but there are many aspects of it and general aerospace engineering that overlap.

Indeed I did know there would be stiff competition for the jobs in the relevant field, hence the applications to graduate jobs in many other fields. The space and aerospace engineering industry in the UK is actually one of the areas that's pretty recession proof right now so I figured that I'd at least have a decent shot, as well as the hope that just having a Masters degree (rather than a BSc that hasn't really gotten me anywhere thus far) would hopefully open doors for me in the general grad job field (it's a pretty 'solid' degree along with other types of engineering) if indeed the grad job market in this country was improving.

Seems I was wrong on both counts, and I've turned into a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none...can't get the aerospace jobs due to competition, can't get the other grad jobs due to lack of specialisation. Can't even get the school-leaver style jobs due to lack of experience. Like I said, I reckon I've applied for nearly a hundred jobs across a variety of fields and only got three interviews out of it. Surely the market isn't that saturated for someone qualified to Masters level?

Guess I misjudged the market back here after time away, and that may well lead to me heading back there again.

If it is a specialised feild then there will be fewer opportunities and therefore all those looking will apply.

They just said that those out of work has gone up but unemployment has gone down.

I'll have to think about that its late.

You won't get the unqualified going for those jobs which is why there are around 50 applicants  at a time for crap jobs

That sucks. My first degree was largely a waste of time so I fairly recently did a conversion course into something more employable, which is working out well so far. Might you be able to convert to mech or electrical enhineering, where there is more jobs? Means more study of course but surely beats being on the dole.

A whol;e post has been deleted when I was on the last sentence. AAAAGH

Had another letter from the housing to say benefits had been stopped. Only went in on the 12th after the previous one. TODAYS LETTER DATED 10TH SO THEY CROSSED. How much money is wasted sending uneccessary letters out. The JSA informed them that my circumstances had changed but neglected to say that my income had been REDUCED as I had cancled JSA to be ready to switch to PC which is already a month behind.

Luckily I am OK financially ATM. I hate to think what it is like for those that are not and are struggling to juggle bills.

Called DWP up and the woman said she\ send an urgent internal email which should be picked up within 24 hours.

With how government offices bearocracy works I'll  believe it when I see things in B/W on my bank statement. It should be back dated but it's the not knowing how I stand which is worse. I like to know where I stand so I can budget for things.

Now i am late forthe raDNO show. Starts at 12 but I may not appear until after 3

I daren't have a boat burger, even though I love lamb. I walk by it every game. Reminds me too much of the black deathboxes in Camden. Had a hot dog from one of those once and had to sprint out of electric ballroom to spew my guts out on the street.

Granted, I was slaughtered, but still.
