Police: Teen High On LSD Goes Postal On Mailbox

PORT MOODY, Canada (CBS Seattle) - It took three police officers to stop a Canadian teen from fighting a mailbox while he was allegedly high on LSD.

According to The Now News, police were called to the Port Moody, British Columbia neighborhood around 5 a.m. on July 15 after a passerby saw someone dancing, talking and then fighting with a mailbox. Officials later said the boy was under the influence of LSD, and when officers tried to take him into custody he turned his aggression onto them.

“Our members attended and saw this 15-year-old kid literally talking to this mailbox and full-out fighting it,†Port Moody police spokesman Const. Luke van Winkel told Now News. “When people are on drugs – on these types of stimulants – it’s amazing what they can do, these are three big police officers.â€

Officers tried to calm him down, but the 6-foot tall boy was clearly under the influence of some type of substance. He resisted the officers’ advances and continued to make threats directed toward the malevolent mailbox. Inevitably, the teen was subdued and taken to the hospital where he was treated for cuts and bruises and released with no charges.

The department told Now News that such incidents highlight the problems that officers face when they’re dealing with irrational people on illegal substances. Officials noted that the boy himself admitted to using the drug after he recovered from his fight with the mailbox.

“It’s just a kid who made some bad choices. Criminal charges aren’t in the best interest for that kid,†Van Winkel told Now News, adding that police don’t believe the teen made a conscious decision to fight with the officers.

A series of tweets were sent out by the police department that morning regarding the incident: “A call of a male fighting with a mailbox,†read the first. “Mailbox fighter arrested after violently fighting with police.â€

LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is a crystalline compound drug that is used in experimental medicine and is taken illegally as a hallucinogenic stimulant. Although LSD has been in wide recreational use for well over fifty years it has been replaced by more potent, but more stable designer drugs like ecstasy. Police spokesman van Winkel noted that LSD use is more rare today because it can lead to a bad, sometimes violent trip.

Would be funny if it was in a film

Vermont farmer in tractor crushes seven police cars

A farmer in the US state of Vermont who was facing a minor drugs charge is now in more serious trouble after driving a tractor over seven police cars.

Roger Pion crushed the county sheriff's cruisers on Thursday before making his getaway on the farm vehicle.

The 34-year-old was stopped by police in Newport city, northern Vermont, not far from the crime scene.

Sheriff's deputies were unaware of the destruction in their department car park until a resident called 911.

'Monster jam rally'

Orleans County Sheriff Kirk Martin said they were initially unable to give chase as their cars had been wrecked.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Rene Morris, who saw the crash, told a local news station: "I felt like I was in a monster jam rally or something.

"I just couldn't believe it, just backing up going over it, turns around makes his way to the other vehicles smashes those up."

Mr Pion was detained last month accused of resisting arrest and marijuana possession, said police.

He was in custody on Thursday evening, facing a number of additional charges.

What the fvck was she thinking lol

The more I look at it, the harder I find it to tell them apart.

Someone on Twitter said they should leave it as it is because they'll get more visitors. I think they're right, everyone's seen boring old Jesus a million times, but Planet of The Apes Jesus would be a massive draw

National Geographic should get her a 4 part "touch up" tour. Egypt, Macha Picchu, the Louvre and Stonehenge. Stonehenge would be her swansong where she fvcks her paintbrush off for a chisel and lump hammer.

Leader of anti-Semitic party in Hungary discovers he is Jewish

28988a1f4b50a68de0d4ebbb49ea.jpg

Laszlo Balogh / Reuters/REUTERS As a rising star in Hungary's far-right Jobbik Party, Csanad Szegedi was notorious for his incendiary comments on Jews. Then came the revelation that he himself is Jewish.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY—As a rising star in Hungary’s far-right Jobbik Party, Csanad Szegedi was notorious for his incendiary comments on Jews: He accused them of “buying up†the country, railed about the “Jewishness†of the political elite and claimed Jews were desecrating national symbols.

Then came a revelation that knocked him off his perch as ultra-nationalist standard-bearer: Szegedi himself is a Jew.

Following weeks of Internet rumours, Szegedi acknowledged in June that his grandparents on his mother’s side were Jews — making him one too under Jewish law, even though he doesn’t practice the faith. His grandmother was an Auschwitz survivor and his grandfather a veteran of forced labour camps.

Since then, the 30-year-old has become a pariah in Jobbik and his political career is on the brink of collapse. He declined to be interviewed for this story.

At the root of the drama is an audio tape of a 2010 meeting between Szegedi and a convicted felon. Szegedi acknowledges that the meeting took place but contends the tape was altered in unspecified ways; Jobbik considers it real.

In the recording, the felon is heard confronting Szegedi with evidence of his Jewish roots. Szegedi sounds surprised, then offers money and favours in exchange for keeping quiet.

Under pressure, Szegedi resigned last month from all party positions and gave up his Jobbik membership. That wasn’t good enough for the party: Last week it asked him to give up his seat in the European Parliament as well. Jobbik says its issue is the suspected bribery, not his Jewish roots.

Szegedi came to prominence in 2007 as a founding member of the Hungarian Guard, a group whose black uniforms and striped flags recalled the Arrow Cross, a pro-Nazi party which briefly governed Hungary at the end of World War II and killed thousands of Jews. In all, 550,000 Hungarian Jews were killed during the Holocaust, most of them after being sent in trains to death camps like Auschwitz. The Hungarian Guard was banned by the courts in 2009.

By then, Szegedi had already joined the Jobbik Party, which was launched in 2003 to become the country’s biggest far-right political force. He soon became one of its most vocal and visible members, and a pillar of the party leadership. Since 2009, he has served in the European Parliament in Brussels as one of the party’s three EU lawmakers, a position he says he wants to keep.

The fallout of Szegedi’s ancestry saga has extended to his business interests. Jobbik executive director Gabor Szabo is pulling out of an Internet site selling nationalist Hungarian merchandise that he owns with Szegedi. Szabo said his sister has resigned as Szegedi’s personal assistant.

In the 2010 tape, former convict Zoltan Ambrus is heard telling Szegedi that he has documents proving Szegedi is Jewish. The right-wing politician seems genuinely surprised by the news — and offers EU funds and a possible EU job to Ambrus to hush it up.

Ambrus, who served time in prison on a weapons and explosives conviction, apparently rejected the bribes. He said he secretly taped the conversation as part of an internal Jobbik power struggle aimed at ousting Szegedi from a local party leadership post. The party’s reaction was swift.

“We have no alternative but to ask him to return his EU mandate,†said Jobbik president Gabor Vona. “Jobbik does not investigate the heritage of its members or leadership, but instead takes into consideration what they have done for the nation.â€

Szegedi’s experience is not unique: The Holocaust was a taboo subject during Hungary’s decades of communist rule that ended in 1990, and many survivors chose to keep their ordeals to themselves. Russian far-right firebrand Vladimir Zhirinovsky was anti-Semitic until he acknowledged in 2001 that his father was Jewish.

Szegedi, who was raised Presbyterian, acknowledged his Jewish origins in June interviews with Hungarian media, including news broadcaster Hir TV and Barikad, Jobbik’s weekly magazine. He said that after the meeting with Ambrus, he had a long conversation with his grandmother, who spoke about her family’s past as Orthodox Jews.

“It was then that it dawned on me that my grandmother really is Jewish,†Szegedi told Hir TV. “I asked her how the deportations happened. She was in Auschwitz and Dachau and she was the only survivor in the extended family.â€

Judaism is traced from mother to child, meaning that under Jewish law Szegedi is Jewish. Szegedi said he defines himself as someone with “ancestry of Jewish origin — because I declare myself 100 per cent Hungarian.â€

In the interview with Hir TV, Szegedi denied ever having made anti-Semitic statements, but several of his speeches and media appearances show otherwise.

In a November 2010 interview on Hungarian state television, Szegedi blamed the large-scale privatization of state assets after the end of communism on “people in the Hungarian political elite who shielded themselves in their Jewishness.â€

Speaking on a morning program in late 2010, he said that “the problem the radical right has with the Jews†was that Jewish artists, actors and intellectuals had desecrated Hungary’s national symbols like the Holy Crown of St. Stephen, the country’s first Christian king.

Szegedi also complained of “massive real estate purchases being done in Hungary, where — it’s no secret — they want to bring in Israeli residents.â€

Szegedi met in early August with Rabbi Slomo Koves, of Hungary’s Orthodox Chabad-Lubavitch community, whose own parents were in their teens when they discovered they were Jewish.

“As a rabbi ... it is my duty to receive every person who is in a situation of crisis and especially a Jew who has just now faced his heritage,†Koves said.

During the meeting, Szegedi apologized for any statements which may have offended the Jewish community, and vowed to visit Auschwitz to pay his respects.

Koves described the conversation as “difficult and spiritually stressful,†but said he is hopeful for a successful outcome.

“Csanad Szegedi is in the middle of a difficult process of reparation, self-knowledge, re-evaluation and learning, which according to our hopes and interests, should conclude in a positive manner,†Koves said. “Whether this will occur or not is first and foremost up to him.â€

The other day I got the deeds of my house out to find out who is responsible for the garden fences. and I gave up about 2 hours later still none the wiser :(

Skinnydipper and Lisa are the only FT lawyers that I can think of .

i always thought that it was the right side looking from the house that is your responsibility, not sure about the one at the bottom of the garden.

When I first moved into my current house the hedge there was overgrown and fallen in on itself by about 4 feet. I started cutting it back when there was a knock on the front door and an irate neighbour from 2 doors down whose garden extended beyond mine was threatening that if I cut it back any further he'd put up an 8 ft wire fence, I think he must have thought i was taking over his garden. Some 15 years later I've never spoken to him since or him to me. His Mrs is nice enough though.

On the deeds where the boundary lines are, there should be a little "T". Whichever side of the boundary line the T is on its their responsability.

yes i was told this , but the problem is it makes the fence at the front my responsibility and the one at the rear theirs , but it's the continuation of the same fence .

or do you mean if i look out from the front , all that fence on the right is mine front to rear ?

or do i look out at the rear and all that fence to the right is mine front to rear ?

it's not a problem yet for us yet and we've decided to do it between us anyway , but i just wanted to find out for my own curiosity really .

yes you're quite right that's what the deeds say , but i've tried looking on the magnifying glass but i still can't see any "T" on the deeds plan  i've also downloaded them and blown them up on my screen , but i still can't see it .

Everything on your right when standing in front of your house and looking at it from the front.

You've probably read this and it says nothing about the right or the left side so probably a load of bollocks on my part, perhaps I need to visit an old neighbour who convinced me and made me pay for a new fence.

Yes I don't know where this "fence on the right rule" comes from or if there is any validity in it , but many people believe it and i've had lots of people say it to me when i've told them about it .

I might just pop into the solicitors to clarify it and ask about the "right side" thing at the same time :)

actually i quite like doing jobs like putting up fences and that ( yes i'm a bit strange )so it doesn't really bother me if i have to do it

Maybe the draftsman was drinking coffee when he drew them?
