That's fair enough, I guess I just wouldn't call that a 1-2-1 specifically unless you're going out of your way to sit down formally and review certain things. That's just talking to your colleagues.

Yeh fair enough, I'm only saying 1-2-1 as it's noted as a weekly item titled '1-2-1' in our diaries with a few standing agenda items. But now you mention it, it is just talking to a colleague.

Are they trying to get rid of people without having to pay redundancy? Sounds suspicious from them but also don’t understand why most people would stay

I don’t know Stan’s business so I couldn’t say with any certainty but there’s no end of businesses making weird decisions at the minute and it seems to all lead back to here. I know of a very large retailer who, during Covid, hired no end of folk from all over the UK with no mandate on being in the office. They’ve then suddenly restructured and have now mandated 3 DPW in the office regardless of your location. You don’t need to be a mastermind to work out what’s going on. A lot of business saw Covid as an opportunity to make a quick few quid with regards to hiring and “percentage growth in Covid, we’ve grown during Covid look how good we are”, now a lot of them have realised they’ve got these big white elephant’s of offices just sat there with nobody in them on leases they can’t break.

Personally paying more tax than 30% of Australian Corporations

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-11-09/831-large-companies-paid-no-tax-in-2021-22-ato-tax-transparency/103079948

More than 800 large companies paid no tax in 2021-22, an Australian Taxation Office (ATO) report reveals.

The ATO's ninth corporate tax transparency report, which covers 2,713 corporate entities, found that while the amount of tax collected increased due to skyrocketing mining company profits and higher oil prices, there were still 831 (31 per cent) that did not pay a cent of tax.

"The fact that an entity pays no income tax, does not necessarily mean that they are not meeting their obligations," Ms Saint said.

Personally I would go further and say it usually means they are doing exactly what the AU government wants them to do and investing in jobs and wealth creation in Australia.  I would also note that like you their employees pay tax on their incomes, they pay GST and state / property taxes like everyone else.  This is about corporation tax, which is 1) on profit not sales and b) subject to a range of government incentives based on how they want companies to act.  The ATO estimates the tax gap - ie what they believe they are entitled to vs what they collect is as little as $3Bn, which while a lot is % wise pretty low.  They also might not be right, as tax authorities often argue between themselves over who gets to tax profit in the case of multination companies, hence the rise of Bilateral APAs.

🤣  Just this week I've had a guy come clean my carpets, I've been to the shops several times and had my car serviced.

Look at all the jobs I've created

Well done - you've learned something about the economy!  Just think, if you lived in a socialist country they would tax you a lot more and you wouldn't be able to afford to do all those things.

Just find it sad people get excited about a fecking advert tbh.

I was thinking about ads the other day. I can honestly say I take no notice of them.

Ad breaks on TV can be that long these days, you can not only make a cuppa but probably nip to your local shop.

Ads on the radio do not register with me at all.

Ads online are ignored/skipped on YouTube.

Throw into the mix that some ads I do see, are so abstract I haven't got a clue what they're for.

Socialism seems to work awfully well for the rich and large corporations and banks when they all fvck up - you never see them going all ‘oh no thank you, this is a natural part of bloodthirsty capitalism so you can keep your money.’ They love a bailout and a handout.

And the last time I looked, Scandinavia is covered in shops. Hell, I even found a carpet cleaner.

Yes that is a fair point.  It was a silly comment on my part :) .  That is literally how job creation works though, you spend money, other people get to keep it.  The more tax you pay the less money you have to spend.  Governments, and particularly the Australian government give very generous tax breaks for capital investment because they know very well building stuff is very expensive here, particularly in regional areas.  I haven't looked in detail at these companies, and some may well be playing games which the ATO will challenge, but most will be spending a lot of money on say developing green energy, for which they get a tax reduction.  It is how governments get things done, but the media likes to wind people up with it.  In the list AusFox shared, Glencore even appear in both the taxpayers and non taxpayers, likley on the same money in a parent company and the operating company.  It is shit analysis imo.

A supermarket has become the first in the UK to go back to fully-staffed checkouts, axing almost all its self-service tills.

All but two of Booths' 28 stores will see staff back on the tills the firm, which trades in northern England, said.

The exceptions are two of its seven shops in Cumbria.

The firm, which has 16 stores in Lancashire as well as outlets in Yorkshire and Cheshire, said it was responding to customer feedback.

The fightback has begun. :trumpet:

Equally getting triggered by Christmas adverts, i.e M&S. Even more sickiening was their pathetic apology - the whole thing is just a dreadful part of the world we live in these days.
