What grinds my gears...

Recommended Posts

Fat lazy middle aged women who bitch about me when they think i cant hear because 'i work too hard' and 'make them look bad'??

The sooner i get out of this job the better. 4 more weeks.

I find the crap ones are in the minority - apart from the department I'm currently attending which is wholly staffed by couldntgiveaflyingfvck specialists.

Chavvy twats that wear them stupid dappy hats still & throw fag ends into your front garden to be then confronted by a 6ft4 bloke telling them to pick that ****er up

That end part didn't grind my gear tho ;)

Clocks going forward - my alarm clock is radio controlled, and not physically adjustable so I've spent the last ten minutes waving it about my room trying to make it up-date.

Clocks going forward is pretty annoying when you have to work the following day, like I am now! 12 hour shift yesterday, and one less hour in bed before I came in today...

I think i've had this before, infact sure I have.

Girls on Facebook with the 'All men are wankers' comments when they've split up, e.t.c....yeah alright until next week, you slag.

Made me laugh when she's put 'All men are wankers' then her friend has replied saying 'Ah did you get that lads number in the end last night' then she said 'Yeah he's lovely woke up to loads of texts from him' e.t.c...hang on, you were just slagging off the whole male population a minute ago, get over yourself - truth is she treats men like shit.

:D Slappers.

I find when women use that line they tend to mean that they see men as a tool for them to wank with and which they can't bear to be without (ie. the real classy type).

I'm all for informed and constructive debate on the welfare state, but it grinds my gears when the subject comes up and someone, as I've witnessed three times in the last week (including once on here), says that it's all terrible and makes some reference to people on benefits having 'flat screen televisions' as if that's some indicator of a world gone crazy, like someone on income support owning a yacht in the Bahamas, a collection of Faberge eggs or buying an original copy of a Shakespeare play. For those who have been shopping for a television recently, or indeed at any point in about the last seven years, it's difficult if not impossible to buy a television that doesn't have a flat screen, so I'm not sure what the message is - is it that poor people shouldn't have televisions? That they shouldn't be allowed access to any consumer electronics, and should entertain themselves with puppet shows, with puppets made from common and low cost household objects?

If you're going to illustrate the injustice of the welfare system using an example that you've made up, at least put some effort into it

Also Facebook related. When the same people every Sunday morning fill up your news feed with the same rubbish they put the week before "never drinking again, oh my god hanging" shut the f**k up as you'll only be saying the same thing a week later.

At what point did televsions become a necessity, I am not saying poor people can't have tellies, but they shouldn't be spending money and leccy on the telly if they can't afford to feed their sprogs, I agree with you on your point that it is a stupid argument, and that you can only really get flatscreens these days and their ownership of a TV or not proves nothing about their financial state...

...but it really is not a necessity. I lived for a while without a TV, I loved it, my flat was the cleanest it had ever been, I spent a lot more time with my friends (admittedly sometimes just watching TV but normally sports) I read and wrote a lot more. If you are that poor that you can barely survive then there is plenty of free entertainment out there, join a library, thousands and thousands of free books. Our dependency on the TV grinds my gears (ironically this thread was inspired by a family guy episode as seen on tv).

Well, taken to the extreme you could argue that only a small fraction of the stuff we buy are necessities, but where the lines are between things being necessities/useful, desirable but not essential/luxuries will always be a bit vague and depends a lot on the individual. You're absolutely right that there is wealth of free stuff out there that could hold our attention at least as well as the magical box of moving colours in the corner of the room. Having a television isn't a necessity, but rightly or wrongly you cannot get away from the fact that it's the norm, and as you've agreed, there are a lot of other better examples of stuff that could be seen as extravagant for the purposes of the arguments people like to have.

I could also argue that there's a whole industry based around providing such items to poor people and making a shitload of money out of it (well them), but that's a whole different kettle of Faberge eggs

Are you referring to the industry of giving money to poor/financially irresponsible people to pay for things they don't need, then take them to the cleaners when they can't pay it back?

Or are you referring to the industry of forcefeeding us these ideas that we are inferior if we don't have all the latest things, and telling us what we need, normally through the media of television?

Both of which grind my gears to the point of sparks flying and setting fire to my magnificent beard.

The former really (and specifically the vast profits they make off the back of them), but the latter is equally rage inducing, for certain
