What grinds my gears...

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 3/4s of the way through a 4 week placement scheme working in fúcking Greggs. It's not something I want to do in the slightest. But there's a big chance it'll enhance my chances of actually getting a job some time soon, rather than living off about a fiver a week on the dole getting continually rejected from every job I apply to for the next year.

I would like to be on a board of directors by next week drawing thousands of quid whilst on the golf course but it won't happen because I have not done my stint at visiting a Gentleman's club first.

We all start at the bottom to some extent.

Its true, I don't earn the money you state but I do find myself increasingly on golf courses and long lunches, its easy in some respects but my word can it be mind numbingly boring for most of it.

Good work, are you sure you're a real scouser?

People who post cryptic clues on Facebook wanting everyone to ask them what is wrong, e.t.c, then when people do ask them what is wrong they reply with 'Can't tell you' or 'Can't tell you on Facebook, phone me' e.t.c or just simply ignore the people who have asked if they needed help, how rude is that of the person who originally wrote the cryptic cluec.

Why post half a story, get people worrying around you, e.t.c, you attention seeking people!

This is why you beat me to the foxestalk humblebrag 2012 award.

I'm going to try and step up my game next year.

When you lend your laptop to a friend for a weekend and it comes back with absolutely hideous pornography in the history that makes you look at him far different now.

Doesn't fvckng matter what you want to do, get a fvcking job, pay your own way.

Do you think you just walk into a good job, in my life I have had a paper round, worked part -time in a newsagents (1 year), part-time in a Super market (2 years), part-time in 2 different pubs (over 3 years, including training to be a supervisor), temped as a truancy officer in a local college, (got the pleasure of calling kid's parents while they were bunking off, I was popular), temped in an office doing nothing but photocopying, temped in a Customer Service office, got made full member of customer service staff, got involved in IT project whilst in Customer Service, got recruited as an IS consultant as part of the in house team, started implementing software solutions around Europe, became a self employed IT contractor. In between all that I have spent 12 months travelling, 3 years living in Spain, trained as a TEFL teacher. I can also list plenty of cvnts I've had to work for/with, plenty of shitty experiences with crappy customers.

The point is, you don't start where you want to end up, every job I have had has offered me new opportunities, contacts and experiences and set me on the way to where I am now, and towards where I want to be, but I started off working on a till, sometimes for 14 hours.

Great post.

Personally, I'd do that shit just to wind somebody up.

Unless, you know, we're talking child porn or snuff.

I'm hoping that's what he has done.

Will see how funny he finds it when he finds out I've just sent an email to his wife anyway with a few screenshots.

Yet another excellent post Shrappers - if I may add something too...

NEVER burn bridges, even if you get sacked - I am in contact with all of my previous employers, one, who sacked me previously became one of my largest accounts in my sales job and also offered me a position back in his company running the team I previously worked in. I had to turn him down.

Other employers have also provided me with advice and contacts that have been a significant help in getting me to the position I am in now.

I have little sympathy for someone not willing to take an opportunity to get some experience with the chance of a full time role. You can't complain on one hand that everyone wants experience and that's why you cannot get a job, and then complain when you actually have to get off your backside to get some experience. Being able to do that without losing benefits is a great idea. On the flip side, there are no guarantees, and I am sure if you don't put the effort in then you are not going to get the opportunity of a permanent job.

You haven't sat on your backside, you are doing some voluntary work, getting experience with your magazine. It shows motivation and effort, which lets face it is what employers want to see.

Missing the point a bit there - the problem he's highlighting is the shamefully large number of employers who say there's an opportunity for permanent work but in reality have no intention of taking the person on full time, and will simply move onto the next person eager to get their foot in the non-existent door.

It's one thing asking people to get work experience, it's another thing altogether to exploit entry-level workers so you can fill some sh*tty role (which proves nothing to future employers) via a rotating door.

Only showing up for one day of a planned two-week role because you think you've seen it all? That's a different matter all together and smacks of naive arrogance. It's already been said, but don't expect a job any time soon Lamby.

The pope is on twitter? Ruined.

Yes. The Pope is what makes twitter shit.

Exploitation is not good, but it is being monitored, basically given the choice between doing no work and receiving the dole, or working for free and receiving the dole (with the improved chance of getting a job an added bonus) it should be a no brainer.

I didn't get the information pack with a contract to sign saying I'd do it til like a month after. I didn't even know what time to start/finish and nor did they.

The whole Mandatory Work Program is just another way to get companies back into slave labour without calling it that.

You "even got rejected from McDonald's". ???

It's that kind of attitude that won't help you either. McDonald are a decent company to work for now with good incentives, schemes and prospects!and no I don't work for them nor am I on commission for them

How old are you Lambee out of interest?

Then don't be a slave. Do your best so they'll say I like this lad I know somebody that could use him.'

I like to think I have better excuses. Age for one You are still young Lamby, time to find a career. It is not easy. In fact a lot harder than most people think but you should be miles ahead of me in the interview queue and if I thought you'd take an opportunity

I'd let you Queue jump.
