What grinds my gears...

The bloke resigned didn't he?  There is no evidence that he has tried to influence policy, and I am sure that would have some up with those reviewing it had he done so.

Fair enough, No.10 seems to have handled it sensibly once the investigation was revealed (and I don't agree with the Mail's suggestion that they should have made it public - certainly not until the bloke is charged, if he is). The Mail report suggests that he didn't influence policy adversely (policy is becoming stricter, I think); time will tell.

The fact that "the bloke resigned" obviously doesn't make it right, if he did what is being alleged - he resigned on hearing that he was under investigation for accessing child porn, as I understand it, so would presumably still be in post if he hadn't been investigated. Of course, he may be quite innocent and may have fallen on his sword to avoid a scandal. That shouldn't be prejudged.

However, it doesn't suggest very good vetting procedures - or, indeed, good taste in friends - if Cameron/No.10 have an adviser under investigation for child porn and a former communications director in court charged with phone hacking etc.

Just balancing things up really, Jon, as certain notorious right-wingers on here (not you, I don't think) certainly made the most of Harman's questionable judgment in the 70s, linking it to left-wing beliefs. I wouldn't link paedophilia to any grouping. It's something that afflicts every stratum of society, I assume, and we need to be aware of the dangers, without going overboard in our paranoia. I'd wondered, though, why Cameron hadn't laid into Harman....we now know why, I assume.

Had to Google Susannah Reid, glad I was on my tablet and not my work computer! Very nice.

Did you 'inadvertently' stumble across a skilfully photoshopped image of Susanna's head on the body of a shapely lady in her undies or perhaps less? I've never done that, or found similar pictures of Carol Kirkwood

That's what happens when you google "Susanna Reid Naked" and "Carol Kirkwood Topbollocks"

Well, so far this week I've seen the results that have meant I failed the first exam in my life (having half the course not taught to us didn't help) and lost the presidency of my society despite being by far the best candidate (read, the only candidate who can even read the name and constitution of the society). Not been great.

When the sharp, pointy bit of a feather works it's way out of the filling of your pillow, through the pillowcase, and stabs/scratches you.

Learn from it.

1. You can be intelligent as you want but if you don't cover everything you are supposed to you'll fail.

2. You can be intelligent as you want but if you don't know how to get people to like and trust in you you'll never win an election.

Yup.

1. Aye, tbh this exam and the module as a whole has been a rather damning indictment of the university. So many lectures cancelled (mostly for strikes, although some simply because the lecturer couldn't be arsed to turn up) but still, I could have self-taught the missed bits, had the lecture material been made available to us - the entire point of blackboard is that uni departments upload the lectures on to there as part of the teaching. But nope - lectures cancelled, not given the lecture material to allow us to cover what we lost out on in our own time. Rather telling that the highest score people were getting was passing by 1 or 2%.

As an aside the strikes are really starting to annoy me - interviewed the hardship fund the other week: hardship funds up and down the country were promised the strike money so they could help students with unexpected costs (the one example that the hardship fund cited was a student who had to spend his entire budget returning home due to the death of both his parents: had to return to set their affairs in order and sort out life for his little sister - had no money left for food or rent as a result) and as yet no hardship fund has seen a penny of it, the unions are instead taking every penny of it for themselves.

2. Yep. From national level to society level, politics is all about who you know, not how good you are. That he had his housemates and other half along for the vote probably didn't help my cause.

Still, that society will be dead within a year with him in charge. The society is essentially a uni-branch of CAMRA and is meant to help campaign for ale and real cider (not the fizzy gnats piss like strongbow) on campus. He's planning a complete change of direction to make it about lager and pork scratchings.

At union elections and this chap (black and minority ethnicity officer) is really annoying me: "black this, black that" - you represent all minorities, not just black students you twat.

Aye aye, we get it, you're upset because you didn't get in on the ginger vote - despite your obvious qualifications.

Good job you didn't jumble up those last four words.

Mind you, being Bradford surely the whites are in the "minority ethnicity group"?

Ethnicity officer lol

Beat me to it lol

Probably the most important position in the University these days.

People who are late. ****ing disgusts me

this and worse still, people who have RSVP'd and then dont turn up at all.

Organised another breakfast presentation/forum, previous ones have filled and been terrific, this time all booked but 10% of people are either late or dont turn up at all.

Cvnts! I could have given your seats to others who wanted to attend but we couldnt fit in if you had just given me some notice. I know you are doctors and think you are the most important people in the fvcking world but we all have mobiles, just fvcking phone or message.
