To be fair I think we would have beat Monfils playing like that, you can see why the French are crap at wars, zero fight about them.

Still can't see anything other than Rafa V Novak in the final though.

Also my Queens club tickets came today for next week, got the Saturday session so a good day out before the football. Would rather be in Halle mind, Federer v Nadal looking possible on grass. :nigel:

lol De Gaulle might have taken issue with you on that one.

Conventional wisdom says it'll be a Nadal - Nole final, can't really see either Murray or Gulbis being able to do enough to get in their way. It would be a miracle if Murray were to win it from here, but if somehow he did it would be an unreal achievement, and I'd be suprised if he didn't then not win the AO to complete the career Slam.

Have fun at Queens - one of these years I'll try to get tickets myself, though cynic as I am I wouldn't rather be at Halle as personally I don't see the appeal of Fed v Nadal on any surface anymore - it's not 2008.

True indeed lol but Murray showed why he usually prevails in such matches, his form never drops... if anything he gets more solid and almost completely cuts out the errors. Nadal - Djokovic must be almost a certainty though, but Murray will be delighted to make the Semi's for the first time at the French, it will help his ranking which took a hit during the injury...

In Rome Murray played brilliantly against Nadal, he won't have the pressure and if nadal's form does drop a bit he could cause an upset

His record when a five set match has gone the distance is 14 out of the last 16 - seriously impressive.

As I said earlier in the thread, him winning today coupled with Nadal beating Ferrer and Gulbis beating Berdych means he's guaranteed to be up to no.5 at least no matter what happens in the rest of this tournament. It also means he's practically guaranteed to be seeded 3rd for Wimby because of the grasscourt formula.

Bloody hell, you're a hard man to please if Federer v Nadal still doesn't tickle your fancy. Give me that anyday over another Novak v Murray contest at the minute.

Murray should get Fuentes' number off Nadal after the match.

lol

Back 6/7 years ago when you weren't quite sure who would win except on the fastest or slowest of courts, Nadal-Fed was utterly fantastic. Now it's just Fed doing a little artistry for a set before Nadal grinds him off the court.

At least with Nole-Murray you're not quite sure who's going to win, even if the overall standard of shotmaking is a bit lower.

Make no mistake, it was a fantastic rivalry and it threw up some of the best matches I've ever seen. But I think it's played out now and people still go on too much like it's still competitive now, when it's not.

Nadal v Federer is boring as anything as well these days. As alluded to by leicsmac, Nadal just moonballs topspin forehands to Fed's backhand until it breaks down.

Federer Djokovic is generally the most entertaining match up of the top 4 followed by Nadal v Djok.

Nadal v Murray on hard has also provided some decent matches.

Well I doubt any player in history could live with Nadal today, conditions were perfect for him and he didn't miss... respect to the greatest clay courter ever, however I'm far from calling him the best Tennis player ever. Federer and Sampras won US, Australia and Wimbledon regularly... While Nadal is one of the best he is still very beatable on hard or grass courts.

Clay just completely gives Nadal a massive advantage esoecially in such conditions, he will always be one of the best but if he wins another 5-8 French opens then I wouldn't call him the best tennis player, he needs to add majors on the other surfaces...

Really like Djokovic but Nadal has been my favourite for years and years.

Nadal grew in to the match and gradually picked up momentum which eventually Djokovic couldn't counter. Not one of his more breathtaking matches but did enough in the end to conquer the great player that Djokovic clearly is.

And we're finally round to playing on a proper surface.

Looks like the combination of home soil and grass has done its usual thing of making the lower British players play like they're ranked 100 places higher. Quality first round wins for Ward and Evans.

Yep, great in for Evans in particular Meltzer is no mug.

No doubt Kingfox will be crying about Evans.

Indeed, Melzer tends to specialise on clay but he's been good across all the surfaces and has always been a consistent mover at Slams.

But he's also the kind of slow-starting opponent that Evans could target here and he did exactly that. Good to see Ward manage a win after coming so close against Dodig last year too.
