Snow

Recommended Posts

One mishit snowball though, and it's lawsuit galore. One child slips and does their leg.

We let ours out to snowball and build snowmen.

Ten minutes later and you have a hall full of crying bastards...that's why the cleverer teachers ban it. Every kid in this country is a fucking wimp these days - they can only deal with eSnow.

Re: the lawsuits.

Many never reach a court room. Insurers make offers these days, regardless of fault, to avoid litigation and costs. Claimants, who deep down now that they shouldn't be making the claim in the first place, accept the offer as it's money for free.

Except it's not money for free, as my car insurance, and my home insurance, and every bugger else's insurance, goes up to pay for it. :@

Not really - Once upon a time we had local schools for local folk - and local staff too. No more.

Only two of our staff live near the school, five live the other side of the city and I live about 5 miles away. Last night it took me 50 minutes to get home, a journey which would normally take me about 15 minutes.

Living right near a main road, we were able to leave the house at 10ish but the road is already back to being nasty ice...there's hardly a thing moving by. The school road hasn't seen any grit at all, nor the roads leading to it. The estate next to our house can't move their cars for the snow and ice at all and even a load of places on the street can't get their cars onto the roads without risking sliding into another car.

So do you leave two people to open up the school and child-mind 250 kids?

Fair enough, it was said on Radio Leicester this morning that some of the schools in Leicester were shut because of the "dangerous conditions" outside, I assumed they meant kids getting hurt but yeah now you mention it suppose they could have meant the teachers couldnt get in. Though weve got fook all snow compared to Birmingham so I still dont get why that was the case to be honest. I got to Birmingham this morning no problem.

My Daughter is year 11 and they werent allowed out during breaks for "health and safety" reasons. Must be different policies at diff schools I guess.

I broke my arm at school doing one of those massive slides in the ice, my Mum was too daft to sue... she just gave me a bollocking instead <_<

Probably this is why:

Leicester hospital treats 2,500 patients with fractures as big freeze hits.

Doctors and nurses are working overtime to treat a record number of patients with broken bones.

Some 2,500 people with fractures have been treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary in the past two months – almost all victims of slips and falls on ice.

Nurses in the Infirmary's specialist fracture clinic said they would normally see about 20 people who had fallen each month.

Now, many of the staff are working overtime and coming in on days off to help cope with the number of patients.

Leicester City Council said it did not have the staff, or cash to grit all residential footpaths and had concentrated on major shopping areas around the city.

You'd have had a bigger lol if you'd seen me trying to cram the reluctant bugger into a bowl of luke-warm water to melt them off afterwards.

Ahhhh bless him, you rotten thing lol. My dogs the same, will jump into the shittiest, deepest, coldest water she can find when out on walks, regardless of the weather, but try and lower her gently into 2 inches of luke warm water in the bath and all hell breaks loose! :dunno:

Doesn't surprise me.

Had a nasty fall earlier on my bike. Went round a corner and ended up sliding a good 5 or so metres. Thank fuck there were no cars coming round the corner.

Decided to walk the rest and fucking slipped again with bike in hand. My trainers are shit.

One of my wrists is feeling a bit sore though.

lol no I was on the road.

Really lucky there were no cars at the time though because I slid across the whole road. Would've been taken right under.

Seriously though, you are really lucky. Braver than me, Id never have got on a bike in this weather >_<

Most of the reason for schools shutting/footy being called off etc is down to the new stupid level of Health and Safety Laws (introduced by God knows which Government) we had worse snow than this when I was a kid and we just got on with it.

The kids arent allowed out at break to play in the snow incase they get injured.

Aye I can remember when I was a kid we would always have these massive snow drifts up the fields that would be so deep you could make tunnels in them. They must of been about 10 foot high. I never see oat like that anymore.

I made an Igloo type thing once when I was about 8 and me n me girlfriend sat in it for ages pretending we were eskimos. You just can't do that kind of thing anymore :D

It was plain stupidity. I got over confident cause I've been cycling on the ice for the last few weeks (since the stabalisers were taken off <_< ) and thought I'd be alright.

My trainers are no better. Need to invest in some trainers with actual grip.

Do they not grit the bloody roads anymore? Half the roads were completely frozen over with ice today.

There was only one school partially closed in all of Leicester today. Majority were remote or catholic/grammar schools who bus their children in. Daft really.

Charnwood School was closed as was English Martyrs that I know of, or are they classed as County? There were 19 odd by 7.30am but a lot of them were out in places like Coalville

Didn't realise Charnwood Primary was closed down. Martyrs is Catholic, a good 65% of his students come from outside the county.
