Defend with 'X' like you said you did has really helped me

Yeah it is better once you stay on your feet and just wait until it is essential to make the sliding tackle.

Tell you what though Lamby, you deserved to win that mate.

:P

Leave him alone.

After a tight encounter between Man Utd and their title rivals, Liverpool, Man Utd came out on top, with home advantage seemingly being the key that unlocked United's third straight victory.

Things did not go to plan when, after United needlessly gave the ball away from kick off, Torres found himself through after clever work by Gerrard brought the three-man United defence towards him and cooly side footed into the top corner, past the onrushing Van der sar.

The United manager made instant changes, telling his players to keep the ball and tire Liverpool out. The United players made no mistake and obeyed their tactical magicians orders. United attacked and in the 15th minute it seemed Torres would score again when he ran from seemingly his own half and would have been one on one but the assistant raised his flags. Replays showed that Torres was on the half way line but United graciously accepted the decision.

Thirty-eight minutes into the game, Rooney ran onto a long ball by Scholes and cut inside, smashing it into the opposite corner to Reina. The relief on his managers face was clear as day.

Liverpool were happier than United when the half time whistle came, as they clearly needed the break. Whatever manager syston_fox gave his players half time worked, as Liverpool came out of the blocks. It seemed that this half was Liverpools for the taking when the game was changed in the 57th minute. Rooney, who has hit a great spell of form at the moment, was one on one outside of the penalty area when Dan Agger viciously hacks him down with two feet. An easy red card for the official anywhere on the pitch, but made easier as it denied Rooney an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

Liverpool had all remaining 10 men back but a brick wall could not stop Ronaldo. Ronaldo smashed a trade mark free kick into the top right hand corner; the ball hit the underside of the bar and the post simultaneously and the ball rolled across the line. Carragher desperately attempted to clear the ball but it rolled over the line, just.

United went all out in an attempt to kill the game but this very nearly back fired. Liverpool still had their talisman in Torres and their kingpin in Gerrard. These two were standing on United's toes. Torres was guilty of hitting the bar when he really should have scored and Gerrard was splitting United's defence apart. The United manager, wisely, then decided to hold out for the 2-1 win and went defensive.

In the 90th minute Mascherano, who had been ousted by Neville, reacted with a lunge on the right back but received only a yellow card.

The table after week three stands as:
