The Doctor Posted 17 December 2009 Share Posted 17 December 2009 I'm looking to buy a proper desktop tower computer. Anyone got any suggestions on where to look other than PC world, dell and misco?
Fox92 Posted 17 December 2009 Share Posted 17 December 2009 Some are good on eBuyer and Comet. Depends what you want for value and that though.

samjohnson Posted 17 December 2009 Share Posted 17 December 2009 Best place for cheap computers would be the PC world website. A recon would only set you back ~£

Fox92 Posted 20 December 2009 Share Posted 20 December 2009 Looking for a new one for downstairs. Seen a refurbished one at Currys http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_...gory_oid=-35430 But, are refurbished any good? It seems cheap regarding the specs but because it is refurbished will it "break" easily? It comes with a warranty but...

Fox92 Posted 27 December 2009 Share Posted 27 December 2009 I have decided on going to build one and after looking up all the hardware all day yesterday here is what I have concluded: System 1 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 CPU Asus P5QL/EPU Motherboard Akasa Zen AK-ZEN-01 BK Case 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive 4GB Corsair TwinX XM52 DDR2 PC2-8500 RAM Samsung Super-writeMaster SH-S202J Windows XP Home Edition/Windows 7 Home Premium (not yet decided) Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W Power Supply System 3 Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 Gigabyte GA-EG41MF-52H Motherboard Akasa Zen AK-ZEN-01 BK Case 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive 2GB Corsair Value Select DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM Samsung Super writeMaster SH-S202J Windows XP Home Edition/Windows 7 Home Premium (not yet decided) OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W Power Supply All specs are different, with the top being extreme, the second mid range and the third a budget PC. Not sure which one to build yet, I only want the PC for the internet, music, pictures, saving and creating documents and playing Football Manager. Still, need to get saving. Thought about buying aprrox. 2 pieces of hardware per month.

Try this one, can get cheap now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MSI-NX8600GTS-T2D256...=item4a9cfd092f Also, definitely get Win 7!

Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 December 2009 Share Posted 29 December 2009 I've often used DA Computers. They will build you a PC to spec and are local, plus I've never had any problems with anything I've had from them. DA Computers Website
Fox92 Posted 29 December 2009 Share Posted 29 December 2009 Or a heatsink and system fan That was the bigger and 'more essential' hardware. Plus, if you buy an official 'boxed' CPU, you get the heatsink/fan with it... I think.

I think. Make sure you get a heatsink though one way or another, and normally system fans (ones that screw to the back of the case) don't come with proc's.
