Yeah, so the jokes about the parties, robotic delivery, wealth, bad behaviour, poor performance in the job, scruffy appearance, etc are all fine, the jokes about someone's race, sexuality, religion etc those are not fine, at least in a public forum like this. I'm not sure why you don't get the difference between them.

There have been jokes posted relating to folks weight, looks ect. You could argue they are equally offensive but they are not taken down.

If it was possible to trivialise racism, I would suggest criticising/banning a picture of shoes left outside the door of No 10 or veg displays are such examples.

It can and does, actually affect the fight against racism.

 

Anyway.......... back to the funny pictures.

See, I've always had the opposite opinion. You are what you were born and grew up around. In my eyes, he's more british than I am. Although I should add, I'm not trying to discredit his heritage, I just don't get all the Indians online celebrating and passing comment like its an achievement for them that a man thats 3 generations removed from India is PM of the UK. It's not, it's an achievement for him and his family. 

 

The reason I mentioned his money is that a privately educated millionaire is hardly a fair representation of India.... or the UK for that matter. Thats my issue with him as the PM, he represents nothing of my life and that's what Parliament is supposed to do, represent the people of that country.

Let's face it, the last part of your sentence could apply in so many other ways to all politicians over the years. 

 

Many don't represent nothing of my life either. UK is so diverse now there's no way any one person in power can always represent everyone of the country. Even if Labour get into power and Starmer is the leader. I don't relate myself to him, but his and his party's policies might. 

 

As for what you're born - that's the person's choice, no? I was born in UK but I see myself as British Indian because the Indian part is my heritage and ancestry. 

 

But should the Indian part be ignored purely because I was born here? 

 

Indians/Asians celebrate it because they probably thought 40ish years ago they never envisaged anyone of their colour rising to hold such a powerful position in their lifetimes. When they came to this country, they were met with racism, day in day out from school and into adulthood. They were chased from school to home, had their homes vandalised, denied job opportunities and chances in life based on skin colour. Now they see someone of their own skin colour in power. 

 

Personally, that's as far as it gets for me. I don't like Sunak because he fronts a Tory government and I can't stand them.

On a more serious note, until recently I didn't realise that @StanSP and @Jattdogg were Asian. Raj obviously was, as was the equally obvious, and equally sexy @Dr The Singh but that's why you can't judge people by their appearance or their background and it's understandable that people get upset about stereotyping. I've also made the mistake of thinking that FT members were the opposite sex (I just typed sexy, so tempted to leave it in lol), just goes to show you just don't know, don't make assumptions.

 

How was I to know @davieG was a woman?!
