Finnegan Posted 2 March 2011 Share Posted 2 March 2011 erm, unless im missing something, this table is completely ****ed ... I'm... not sure I see it. I'm looking at it trying to work out what you mean, am I being thick? What's wrong with it? Edit: Oh right, okay, there's teams above him that have won less and lost more... he should have like 67 points?
Stinkenzo Posted 2 March 2011 Share Posted 2 March 2011 Might just be Leicester's points that are screwed actually, but yeah thats still alarming. He should be 6 pts ahead of Sunderland for a start

morris1234 Posted 2 March 2011 Share Posted 2 March 2011 What about the full backs, how do you set those up? Ideally I'd like Naughton and van Aanholt bombing forward but I don't think I'm going to be able to have that whilst being safe at the back am I? Also what about width, temp, focus passing and all that lark? Here's what I've got atm: what i have on most of my formations mate are, but i do change them depending on specialist formations, opposition or home and away. 4-4-2* fluid, attacking more direct default press more default default default more romaing defensive line about +75% width + 75% (knock the current slider up 1 and) tempo - about 85 % time wasting - 35% down both flanks no or yes, i change often as it doesnt seemt ot make much difference to me. play offside yes hope it helps mate
The Doctor Posted 2 March 2011 Share Posted 2 March 2011 Going into the final qualifying game the table looked like this: lined up 4-3-3, attacking against the spanish: worked well but my strikers (front-line of miller --- boyd ---- riordan) were incredibly profligate. anyways the table finishes like this: best runner-up means i qualify without p/o's though: also is this the greatest name for a football team? Ozwin Posted 2 March 2011 Share Posted 2 March 2011 Here's what pisses me off about this game, everything's going swimmingly, I'll be winning pretty consistently and in a good run of form. Anyway, I see that I have Derby next (who are 19th) and Clough is under pressure, so I think to myself that this should be an easy win. I play them and they knock it around like Barcelona, literally zipping it around like they have 11 Messi's. Whats'up with that? Surely a team who are struggling to win a game shouldn't be able to transform into a completely different team against me? I don't care if it's a derby, it just doesn't happen. Fair enough if they beat me with 2 fairly scrappy goals, I could put that down to losing because they upped their game against me, but to play like that and knock me from pillar to post and score 2 corkers annoys me a lot. Anyway, onwards and upwards. Edit: That loss seems to have put all my players morale in the red and now they're playing like shit. **** you FM, **** you. 5 defeats in a row now since the Derby game, I have never seen anything like this. shen Posted 3 March 2011 Share Posted 3 March 2011 ...by that token, teams that are struggling never turn things round. What team talk did you use? @Ozwin: ALWAYS use 'for the fans' when playing derbies. Except when you've got two or more in a row, then pick strategically which one they should get the boost in

Edit: Oh right, okay, there's teams above him that have won less and lost more... he should have like 67 points? I know what the problem is. I forgot to mention I went into administration and was deducted 9 points for doing so, hence why the points are like they.

By 'beatable' I assume you mean when the opposition is the slight favourite? I never ever say 'you can win this' if I'm the bookies' favourite, even away. Finnegan Posted 3 March 2011 Share Posted 3 March 2011 I got so bored of team talks I usually press the ask assistant button and just get on through it, same as opposition instructions. I'll throw in a few personal messages to players but generally I just find it repetitive. I'd like it if you could do pre-sets with opposition instructions, so you'd always give instructions corresponding to certain formations and could just then tweak if coming up against a Messi or a Ronaldo or whatever. I've managed to get team morale to mostly in the greeen now after a long hard January so hopefully I can sneak my way into the playoffs again. Someohow I'm 8th. Pretty good performance for you then.

I'd like it if you could do pre-sets with opposition instructions, so you'd always give instructions corresponding to certain formations and could just then tweak if coming up against a Messi or a Ronaldo or whatever. It does get repetitive, but letting the assistant do them merely avoids bad team talks. You mostly lose the bonus of a good team talk. And I agree with oppo instructions, although again, if you meet e.g. a 4-5-1 you don't know whether the wingers are inside forwards or wide wingers in which case you have to look at the oppo players anyway. I would though like to know what difference it makes when asking players to show onto "weaker" foot or assigning the specific foot. I did. At home I always use for the fans, away I usually let my assistant pick what to say. I've managed to get team morale to mostly in the greeen now after a long hard January so hopefully I can sneak my way into the playoffs again. Someohow I'm 8th. Ah but that's where you're doing the team talks wrong. In general, try to avoid saying the same team talk at the start of games twice in a row. If you don't know what to say, don't say anything and maybe just say 'expect a performance' to your experienced heads/key players. When you say 'for the fans' every home game you effectively get NO bonus at all (the players get bored of what you say if you're repetitive), and usually the assistant will say it away as well unless you're the underdog where he might occasionally say 'you can win' or 'pressure is off'. If you're the clear favourite at home, say expect a win. If you're the clear underdog at home or slight underdog away say 'you can win'. If it's a cup tie home or away and the odds are about even I find 'wish luck' works well. Use for the fans only in derbies as that can give you a substantial motivation bonus. Away and clear underdog use pressure is off. I also advise that you use the 'special' ones when playing a tie over more than one leg.
General Smuts Posted 3 March 2011 Share Posted 3 March 2011 My laptop is too shit to dick about with anything not essential so my assistant does almost everything.
Finnegan Posted 3 March 2011 Share Posted 3 March 2011 I'm sorry but that's not accurate. If you have an assistant with a high motivational score then, in my experience, he recommends plenty of good team talks. I've had games turn around because of what the assistant opted for. I've even holiday'd League Cup / JPT games before and had the "<player> praises <assistant> for turn around" etc messages because he said something during the game. And usually I agree with the assistant, it's just a case of pressing one button and getting it all done. If the assistant comes up with something retarded I'll usually change it, it's just such a boring part of the game I normally "skip" it.

I was talking about pre-match team talks, which I admittedly did not make clear in my post. I do exactly the same as you during half-time and just change it if he's way off. I notice though that he never suggests 'angry' which I occasionally use and which can work better than 'question passion'. Sometimes he suggests 'encourage' when I'm the favourite and in the lead which never provides any motivational bonus (on the contrary) or 'disappointed' at FT despite winning. I suppose that's down to pre-programmed 'brain-farts' so assitants aren't always 100% right.
