1 for the gardeners on here. I bought a Japanese Acer to put in a pot  today. Instead of reading the instructions first I planted it in a big pot with some compost from my composter and a little building sand I had lying around. Afterwards I read the instructions and it said I should of planted it in ericaceous compost. Is that going to be a problem? It already had a fair bit of compost around it when I planted it..

i put 3 acers in about 10 years ago just in plain soil with compost and spaced about 10 feet apart in similar exposed positions( 2 red and 1 pink /green)

the pink /green one grew massive 8-10ft and i cut it down because a neighbour told me it was too close to my  sewer pipe and would probably disrupt it( he was right , the roots were around the pipe)

one red is about 4-5 feet and quite spread out , the other one is not much bigger than when i planted it ( 18ins)

so i'm not sure whats the best  :D

What the **** do you do on a friday when the wife insists you stay in?

Apart from the obvious, but as shes in a shit mood I guess that ain't happening.

I've been out the last 3 fridays with the lads. Inc 2 trips to the casino. Both with little joy on the winnings front.

this week shes put her foot down and insisted I stay in. I think if I go out it may end with me being divorced!!!

now we dont have sky and freeview seems to consist of shit.

all I wanted at the end of the week was a bit of conversation and few pints.

for anyone on here who stays home on a friday. Wtf do you do?

Get a bottle of wine and a takeaway or cook a nice meal.

You could do something other than sit in front of the TV, don't know what floats your boat, but playing games, go old school do a jigsaw, get out some old digital photos, go through them together and get an album together. Plan your next holiday or Christmas, or make plans for the new year. I'm sure you have a common interest that you share. Sitting in front of the TV is too easy and it does just become default but there are so many other things to do.

I ****ing love a jigsaw. My girlfriend and I try and have at least one night a week when we don't have the TV on, it's all too easy to watch it for the sake of it. I love having a read with some music. We're pretty cool.

We have I'm a celeb on the telly.

Used the excuse our local is a curry house to get a pint in whilst I collected a takeaway.

poured her a nice warm mulled wine and she won the battle of entertainment, if you can call it that with I'm a celeb.

however based on some above advice. I've told her next time it's a game off with connect 4 and the kids peppa pig dominoes.

1st to 31 (her age) in both games. Maybe a late night!!!!!!

Right, in need of simple help here...

So, I'm a student and live in a house with 5 other students. We pay our bills through a service so we all pay the same amount every month..

However, I've now got two letters from SSE (anyone heard of them? apparently based in Scotland). The letter only has my name on it, I don't know why, and it states that I owe them £172 for 'the period 26th July 2013 - 02 November 2013'.

I don't get it at all. We didn't move in until September 15th 2013, but I'm not sure what to do having never been in the situation before. Ring them and say what? ... Obviously people were living in the house before us, so are they getting that mixed up? I just don't know why I'm the only one to get a letter, and even though they spelt my name wrong, I'm not sure how they've obtained only my name.

Any ideas?

Right, my in laws are doing one of these quiz papers that you buy for charity and then send your answers in for a chance of winning a prize. They've got most of them and I couple too but we're stuck the last 2. Which 1 word links the other 3 words.

Eg. Fire, List, Ice = Bucket (bucket list, fire bucket, ice bucket )

Any ideas on these?

1)Dies, Over, Down.

2)Box, Bay, Shop.

It's Scottish and Southern Energy, one of the big 'uns.  It's probably your landlord that's told them, and it sounds like the energy company has assumed you took over when the last students left - presumably it was empty over the summer.  Did your tenancy begin when you moved in?  If so, it's out of order for your landlord to expect you to take responsibility for any bills over that period, but I think some student lets are for a full 12 months, so if you are liable for it and it's been empty the costs associated with it might be next to bugger all anyway.

Talk to SSE and explain when you moved in.  If you took meter readings when you moved in (and you'd be forgiven if you didn't) that will help enormously.  It's always good to let an energy provider have readings as often as possible as there's less risk of you either paying over the odds or building up a deficit which is what often happens with estimated readings, and then be either trying to get money back off them or being hit with a big bill you weren't expecting

Sounds a bit dodgy given you're the only one to receive it, the dates don't match (the bill would be apportioned for your time there), and the name is spelt wrong.

Ring SSE up and before committing too much to this letter, ask them what the latest letters they have on their system are.

When they do send you letters, how is it addressed?

Cheers lads.

Just rang our service us. They basically said we are liable for the amount because, although we didn't move in until September, our tenancy agreement started on July 1st.

I will ring SSE up, but I'm waiting for the landlord first as he said he's coming round later for house viewings. Going to see what he says, I'm not entirely happy we're liable considering we didn't use anything prior.
