Rule number one, it's not an arctic. If you want to drive an artic (articulated) lorry, you need a a Class 1 licence, which will cost you something like a grand from a specialist trainer. There's plenty of firms about so give one a call for exact prices.

lol knew that really! It was very early (for me) when I posted lol

Cheers for the reply. I've requested a call back from Peter Smuthe transport training.

You inspired me to check my online billing and it appears Vodafone have put my package up by £7 a month, the absolute shits.

I don't see the point of a contract if they can just ramp the price up when they feel like it.

I might can them when my conny is up. Can anybody recommend a network that isn't run by ruthless turds?

They have to communicate it to you by law and, since the beginning if this year, they have to include the fact that if you're in contract you can leave within 30 days penalty free. Keep an eye out for them communications because if you're not happy it's the easiest way to get out.

Don't suppose anyone on here is particularly handy on mechanics? I'm sure it's fairly diagnosable, but I'm just not that way inclined. Basically I was driving to pick my girlfriend up from Uni yesterday and noticed steam coming from the engine, pulled over and realised the steam was coming from the engine coolant. Once it had cooled down I removed the cap to notice that it had dropped below the minimum line by an inch or so. I have since put water in and it's been running ok - albeit only 30miles or so.

I've only had the car for around a month or so, presumably the dealer wouldn't have sold it with little engine coolant in, so I'm guessing that I have a leak or something? Any advice would be handy before I get it checked - but I'd imagine it's the kind of thing where you'd need to see the engine etc to fully diagnose.

Yeah the steam was basically coming through the cap of the coolant container so I'll check that later. Thanks very much.

If the engine is not overheating, I'd try replacing the radiator cap to see if that fixes the problem.

If it is overheating, try removing the thermostat temporarily, that will tell you if it needs replacing. Since you are not losing coolant it doesn't seem like you have a leak or head gasket issue.

Is restricted views at Selhurst Park that bad?

I'd imagine you're stuck behind a post, like at Goodison etc. Depends how directly behind it you are I guess.

Thanks. Glad it doesn't seem to be a head gasket issue, I'll try removing the thermostat later and see how it goes. Cheers for the advice.

If that does fix the problem, replace the thermostat don't run the car without one since it's there for a purpose.

If it still overheats, it could be the pump, check the belt for tightness, should be no more than about 1cm in play. After that, the system might need flushing and or the pump replacing.

Don't want to start a new thread for this in the sport sub-forum etc, but it is a sport related question.

Reading the "expand the East stand" thread and everybody's on about standing. Seriously, what is the deal with you guys and standing at football matches.

Last I was in England was many decades ago and terraces were the common way of watching a match. Now, don't get me wrong, I COMPLETELY understand why there are no more standing terraces at the upper levels. Makes some sense and I understand the history of it all.

What I don't get is how you all are apparently harassed for standing in front of your seat, which is what most of us do all match long here. As a matter of fact, you'll often get hell if you're sitting through the match, as other spectators will generally think that you're not paying attention etc. (Really only an issue in supporters sections, etc). I couldn't imagine sitting except to maybe put condiments on a hotdog or to grab another beer from under my seat during MLS/USA matches.

What is the logic behind "don't stand in front of your seat"?

Shall do, I'll see if there's any success or failure after work. Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated!

Ah, I see, 5mi to 8 is quite a bigger jump that I personally wouldn't make as the risk is quite high, even with your experience.

To put it in context I have run multiple marathons a numerous halfs and I work in the fitness industry. I wouldn't make such a big jump there and try and plot out a different route to build up to it a bit slower.

I've made a jump from 5km to 10km without issue before. Health and safety wise I don't think it's too much of an issue.

Because the government said so.

The Three network guarantee not to change your monthly price whilst you are in a contract.

It's certainty possible for sure - but it depends on someone's shape, weight, endurance, foot strike, cardio strength etc... IF he decides to follow my opinion there is a possibility he could fracture a bone, have a heart attack or manage it totally fine.

I've never met the fella so it's hard to say just go out and almost double the distance - ultimately only he knows but as he decided to ask on here I find it's always safer to err on the side of caution. Don't forget, I work in the industry and have sent many a gym member to hospital having pushed even just a little harder than they did before.

Yeah, that's fair. Personally I'd say if you can manager 5km in 25mins then pacing yourself and making the step up shouldn't be too bad. You're the boss though :P

Anyone ever been K.O.d?

Just spent 3 days in hospital with a fractured eye socket, which needed surgery. I somehow fell going into the downstairs loo, and presumably hit my head on the basin, waking up in hospital some hours later, with a two inch gash across the right eye.

Some of you guys must have had it happen, and just wondered how it happened to you?

I guess this is a good time for an update:

I decided that I would take your advice (thanks once again :) ), so I stepped it up by another 1.5 miles the first couple of sessions. I found it relatively easy, tbh, and have since pushed it up to 8 miles. My heart and legs have held up pretty well, not really unexpected - I used to do a lot of long-distance hiking, and my only vice is a couple of spliffs an evening. My only issue is one of stamina - I'm knackered after about 7 miles - but I guess that will take care of itself.

Good man, and welldone (well, not so much the spliffs bit, but mostly!) :)

Thanks. :)

The weed is a trade-off with my mental health; I have problems dealing with stress, and (literally) a couple of spliffs in the evening helps me unwind. I don't smoke tobacco, don't drink, and eat nothing but vegetarian wholefood.

I'm comfortable with my lifestyle choice (I'm in pretty good shape for my age) though I suspect that my running is a sub-conscious wearing of a hair shirt.
