No apology necessary. I still think the Judge's decision to not allow his homosexuality to be brought up in the case was wrong though (and most legal experts seem to agree on that), to be surfing gay rent boy websites a day after you're wife has been brutally murdered is so strange I can't actually get away from thinking about it.

The state does seem incapable of producing a decent case in South Africa, we saw numerous errors in a trial as high profile as Oscar's so what chance to we have of them not ballsing up things like this, It's a strange route to go down, if anyone were going to commit murder these days it's certainly advisible to pay the dumbest person you know to do it, even if they grass you up and are prepared to work with the state prosecution there's a huge chance they'll be so appalling and out of their depth under cross examination you'll manage to get the case thrown out because of them.

Dewani might be a genius, I remember saying his biggest mistake was getting a couple of clumsy black guys to do it, turns out it was probably the best decision he made.

You being serious? Can't be many blokes in the World who have handed a bagful of money in a hotel room to their wife's killer the day before the event and not had to at least answer a few questions about it.

It's shown up South Africa to the World, people aren't getting fair trials because of the incompetence of the state, it seems easier to try and get yourself off on a technicality than to actually defend yourself against the charge.

Who knows, maybe he was trying to buy diamonds or Ivory illegally.  That would explain why they were there, and also why he wouldn't come out publicly and say it.  The judge then throws it out because if he goes on the stand he has to incriminate himself to defend himself, and there is basically no case against him whatsoever apart from people who orchestrated the killing, and got a plea bargain for testifying he was involved.  Dodgy as hell.

I don't see why you think him being bisexual or even gay is a reason to want to kill his new wife.  Surely much easier to live that life secretly under the cover of marriage.  Why go through all that and then kill her?  The evidence they were having relationship tensions is also meaningless - getting married is stressful!

Surely you would incriminate yourself though for something relatively minor like that (in comparison) if you had to given you're accused of orchestrating the murder of your own wife?

The helicopter trip story is so bizarre it's incredible, you ask a rep to do it or just buy it at reception, you don't spend 45 minutes in a hotel room with a taxi driver and pay in a paper bag for it.

For an Asian it's a massive taboo, he could live how he wants with her gone, he would never be under pressure to re-marry again, have children, no prying eyes on him ever again, it's a million times easier to live that life with her out of the picture.

Asked this over on the computer section, but to no avail.

Anybody have a home network? If so, pros and cons.

And by network I mean a harddrive plugged through your router, or cloud storage etc.

I have a Seagate central. You want to look for Network Attached Storage (NAS).

I like it, I can back up and access files and media online.

Con is the metadata recognition on the Central is not great. So movies are not sorted well.

Look into Plex server and they are NAS that are supported by Plex for better media management.

The girl on the till at nuremberg duty free reckons she wasn't allowed to sell fags (one carton, personal use) to us as we were flying to London (Stansted) - any theories why?

I've had a good Google but I can't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to as per normal EU rules.

Ofc, the girl could just have been an idiot.

I Remember several years ago it being illegal to import Ciggerettes without the tax paid on them... people used to get prosecuted for it . Probably down to the absolute bucketload of tax on them thats probably higher than any other prodeuct ( other than Petrol of course...) so i would imagine its becaus of the size of the loss in tax that its banned.

I grew up in Belgrave and know three guys who to this day have extra marital affairs because they felt like they were forced into marrying someone they  didnt want to marry.

I would say its entirely possible for someone to come to the conclusion that the person they have married is better off out of the way to enable them to carry out their lifestyle choices. Its a sick person who would actually do it, but i know for a fact people DO contemplate it as an option. Even if they do end up feeling guilty for just thinking it.

Just watching the Pistorius appeal. It's the same judge lol

How can the same judge be deciding the appeal on her own decision? !

If you were to contact a marketing-type agency as a potential new client, how quickly would you expect a response? I waited over a fortnight.

If, then, following an initial briefing meeting, you then waited over a fortnight again before receiving an email which, when you replied, was greeted with an automated 'out of office... won't be back until the 20th Jan' would you be just a bit pissed off?

I'm only asking because I get the distinct impression I'm being seen as pushy and awkward and I'm actually starting to query my own expectations! Having worked in Marketing/PR myself in the past I know I'd never have treated a client this way but that was several years ago... have things really changed that much?

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a couple of quick ones.

My fridge freezer is not freezing up. Somebody told me it could need adding or filling up with stuff but no idea what. They said there used to be specialists that did it. The thing is a few years old so may not be worth spending out on it. I rarely filled the freezer part anyway so could get one with a smaller freezer department.

Second question is has anyone used a Halogen oven? i only have a microwave and bit limited if I wanted a roast. I do have a deep electric roaster which I could use even though I have not used it for a while.

Unless it is leaking ie. defective, it won't need any extra refrigerant. Could you have accidentally turned the thermostat right down? When I worked in a shop the amount of people that came in with a problem and it turned out they'd accidentally adjusted the thermostat was surprisingly high. Empty the freezer and check if there's any ice build up or anything unusual.

I would take your business elsewhere clearly they are not that interested i'm sure you would find a better service out there, and quicker marketing/pr company's are usually on the ball.

It's been a while now. I switched the fridge off to defrost and when I switched it back on it went wrong. I have had the dial in the fridge low and high but no good. I have taken the containers out now. It is not so bad during the colder weather but it went wrong around August so bit tricky keeping stuff like milk. Started using powdered and ready made coffee and tea. Bought asome fresh milk today though. I can hear the motor running and the fridge light is on.

I'm trying to add a picture to my sig (a City one) but cannot because of the dimensions. I've seen bigger ones on here than the one I want. How do I make the picture smaller? I'm taking it from my pictures on Facebook.

Done it. Not really the one I wanted but it will do. I uploaded it to my blog and altered the size there.

Ken, don't you rent? Is the fridge yours or your landlords? If the latter, it'll be their responsibility to keep it in working order.

I rent but it's not all in. Housing Association. They just decorate amd do repairs. Would be nice though now I can claim some HB. The block near the station has a sign outside from £74 pw including internet and bills. Could not afford it before. The cheaper ones are small though.

My fridge is a few years old so may look to get another one. Maybe second hand. If I get a year or so out of it it will be OK. You normally get 6 months warranty on them. May even manage with a normal fridge. I don't buy a lot of frozen stuff now.

I've got back to student digs from christmas to find some mice in my airing cupboard - we've got one of those sonic noise things that's supposed to piss them off enough to make them leave: do they actually work, or do I need to get some traps?

If you do get a trap could you remove the dead mouse with it's brains splattered all over it? From my experience it's a bit yukky.

I'd probably get one of those cage ones that traps rather than kills, there's some fields about a 10 minute walk away, I can chuck them out in there.

Pah, that's nothing. I've removed a man's brains from a railway track.

Just throw the whole lot, trap and mouse remains into a plastic bag and into the bin.
