Do bananas cause other fruits nearby to go over ripe?

Heard this a few times but don't know if it's just a myth.

Yes and no.

A ripening banana will help to ripen the kind of fruits that continue to ripen once picked (ie tomatoes) but not those that don't. I don't like green bananas, so I save a ripe one and put it in a carrier bag together with the green ones.

Does anybody ever get half way through typing out a response to someone on FT and then think 'Ah **** it! They'll never change their mind anyway' and just bail out?

Lost count of how many times this has happened recently.

Yes. Then I delete it and type ' I agree' or 'what what he said'.

I wish I could do it more.

Just wanted to ask from the previous footer quote:

"A lie told often enough becomes the truth"

Rincewind has quoted Vladimir Lenin, although some believe he said something similar and Herman Goebbels made it famous.

Strange how both were extreme left wing. ( yes the NAZI party were socialist )

Just a genuine question and didn't want to start a war, even though I did invade Poland (but I think I got away with it)

Perhaps I should start a sayings thread. In fact I will now.

It's been happening for a few weeks now, but I found myself feeling knackered - before consuming anything - for a few hours after waking up (despite having the required 6-8 hours of sleep).

I struggle to eat in the morning (even a round of toast), and just normally have a tea to drink.

Anyone had this sort of problem, and recommend anything to help ease the problem?

Worms. Sounds like you've got worms.

Why is Greenland named Greenland when its mostly ice and snow, and why is Iceland named Iceland when its mostly not covered in ice?

Greenland (Grœnland) was named such by it's discoverer and first inhabitant, Erik the Red, in an attempt to make it sound attractive to settlers.

Iceland - though of largely temporate climate - was named so because of winter drift-ice in the fjords, sometime in the 9th century. It had previously been known as 'The Land of Snow' (Snæland).

How does purpleronnie get his pics up on the post match threads so quickly?

Always the first one to reply to the OP and never disappoints.

Weeks and weeks of careful planning.

TBH I didn't even realise I was the first, sometimes I'm too busy so don't expect me to be the first everytime....too much pressure Mark. ;)
