Underdogs, the money bet on favourites more than accounts for the odd huge payout.

The answer might be very different for an independent Leicester based bookie though, Mark Jarvis are probably facing huge losses if we do the impossible.

I think a Will Hill spokesman came out this week and said for business reasons, they weren't Leicester fans at the moment. I'd have assumed what you were saying is true, bit confused about the numbers.

Major bookmakers have insurance against huge payouts anyway so they don't need to lay off.

It's different on the rails though, in this day and age bookies often just back at a bigger price on betfair for severe liability, but as Betfair only goes upto 1000-1 they wouldn't have been able to do that in our case.

As I say nationwide bookies will be loving it, 99.999% of the 20 odd billion bet on PL will be on the "big six" - Mark Jarvis though being based exclusively here could be in big trouble given they'll have taken an abnormal number of bets on Leicester and have nothing like the capital of layers like Hills, Ladbrokes or Paddy Power.

This is probably a stupid question but I don't really know much about gambling.

Is it likely better for the bookies if Man City win the title because more people will have bet on lower odds or if we win the title with not many people backing us but the payouts being bigger,

Basically, do the bookies prefer the favourites to win or the massive underdogs?

always depends on the prices the bets have been laid at.

for horse racing, a favourite losing is almost always great for a bookie, because everyone backs them and the "outsider" who wins will probably only be between 5/1 and 16/1 or something, so even if a few cheeky chaps have had an "outrageous" punt on an outsider the liability won't be too big.

to have laid bets @ 5000/1 is a different story though. i have no idea about this year as there's been so much movement in odds (5000/1 into 7/4 for us, chelsea the opposite way, united have been as big as about 50/1, as short as 4/1, city are 3/1 atm but were about 1/2 after 5 or 6 weeks) but last season i remember paddy power saying the biggest losers in their premier league winner book on day one of the season were teams like villa, newcastle and west ham just because they've got a lot of (stupid) fans and their prices were so ridiculous. and obviously it's seemed impossible for anyone bar 3 or 4 to win it for a good 20 years so normally a bookie would be happy to take £50 on all the 1000/1 shots because they're not going to win.

paddy power paid out on chelsea winning the league in november last year, so that to me says it can't be a market worth much money to them, therefore even just a few punts @ 5000/1 are going to wipe it out.

I doubt there would have been any big bets on City winning the PL. The odd quid here and there and maybe a few £10 from the more hopeful having a 'silly' bet because it is lestah. There would have been more on them surviving and a top half finish but what the bookies lost on that they would have got back off the bets on Chelsea and Man Utd.

Maybe laying bets off happens more in horse racing and the race track but not so much these days. But I am sure that if a lot of money was going on one horse they went elsewhere and did a bet. Whatever happens the bookie rarely loses if ever.

Actually I did consider having a quid on City last September and giving the receipt to a mate for his birthday. He'd be shitting himself now. It also crossed my mind to ask a couple more of his mates to contribute something to make it a bigger bet. But it was only a glimpse of a thought so was instantly dismissed as a stupid idea at the time. They say hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If you go behind the bookie after placing your bet these days more often than not they'll will be a screen with Betfair up and a guy punching in the bet you have just done.

They can't lose, say they lay at 4/1 on the course, they back whatever you have bet at about 5.6-5.7 on the exchanges, no need to lay off now.

Wouldn't that mean that if your bet doesn't come in they don't make any money off you because they lost it all on the same bet?

I used it in Vegas once, not good with tight trousers on.

Huge stiffy at the casino table out of nowhere and had to run to the restroom to tuck it under my belt which in turn gave me a very uncomfortable night.

If they let it ride then no they wouldn't, but on any course you'll usually be taking bets on the vast majority of horses in with a chance.

Some will happily lay it back for free money before the race if the price comes in.

How long did it take for your stiffy to appear after taking the Viagra?

Can't really remember, think it was about half hour.

You still need some sexual arousal though for it to work, it won't just pop up if you are watching Bargain Hunt, fortunately I hit a couple of blackjacks on the bounce and that was me gone.

It needs to be something more like Homes Under The Hammer, in my experience
