Obviously we did with Wood, but other than us...

whaddya think?

As to your question, Zingo, if put money on it being Vin Garbutt. He's not a Geordie, Middlesbrough I think.

Got quite a few songs about the pits. The Potash Song, If I Had A Son, Away From The Pits, etc.

He's one of the biggest names in English folk. Really like him.

it was this one by Rita Macneil ( Canadian)

No doubt you've heard it loads of times , but it was a first for me and really loved it , but we'd had a few drinks that night and neither of us could remember what it was next day :)

i'll look out for some of that Vin Garbutt stuff though

edit;

i might have misled people by saying i thought it was a geordie song .

It was a geordie bloke singing it in the bar and lots of geordies were singing along to it :)

I'll wait for the Skrillex remix.

This question is for doctors, nurses (Parafox ahem... I am expecting you to answer this) and dentists.

Anyone knows whether all people who work in healthcare industry actually take their own advice such as healthy eating and exercises? As in if they get home and think "Sod this" and have a crafty cake or three packs of crisp?

Nearly every nurse I've ever seen is fat :)

Good question though , it would be interesting to see how health workers life expectancy compares to us common types

As a PT I stick to eating well as obviously my appearance and my sport, albeit amatuer would be affected.

I do drink alcohol on some weekends, not all and never in the week. I have one day of eating crap but still I genuinely don't like the fast of most fast foods anymore (unless drunk). My current vice is eating Wotsits or other cheesy crisps by the bag load on a Sunday after my long runs.

Also when training myself I absolutely do not stretch enough, I do a little, but not as much as I tell my clients too.

The thing about being in a health or fitness position is people (quite rightly) expect you to be like that 24/7/52 but you don't see people in other industries "taking their work home" - that's of a complaint, I enjoy being able to do things my mates can't and also just generally "feel" fitter too, it's a great perk and it doesn't actually feel like "work".

The best one was after I got home from running the Leicester Marathon I hobbled to the shop and bought a trolly load of chocolate, beer and crisps and the cheeky fat hint behind the counter (who knows me and sells me fruit and get on a regular basis) made some sort of comment.

Only because I was fooked from running 26 miles earlier that day did I not two-foot her in the face. Silly cow.

In short, 90% of the time (probably more), I practice what I preach.

EDIT: bear in mind the difference between a Healy worker and a fitness worker, there are overlaps, but the two words are not interchangeable - they meant different things.

As a PT, your body is a walking advertisement for yourself.

It's not fair, but I'd be less inclined to take advice from an out of shape PT. They may well be talking sense but I would be asking myself why they haven't taken their own advice.

I think it's a bit rich of a doctor etc to tell someone to lose weight when they are overweight themselves.

Andy, you wouldn't take advice from a bankrupt financial advisor, would you?

Totally agree, I wouldnt listen to a fat PT either. I was astounded last week when one of my team asked if he could go for a fag break as he had started smoking!!!! It's a fvcking disgrace and I wanted to sack the idiot, still makes my blood boil now.

Personally, what I tend to battle against is that I don't look like most peoples idea of a stereo typical Personal Trainer, whilst I do have definition in my muscles, theyre not massive, I am "in shape" for my sport as I am quite clearly conditioned for long distance running. Put it this way, My body shape is more like Mo Farah than Usain Bolt.

I do get comments about my shape, usually from the body builders, who seem to think that all PTs are body builders too, I have considered stopping running marathons so that I can put on a bit more muscle but I don't work 12 hours a day (average) to stop doing what I enjoy (eg running).

That said, the clients I take on are usually weight loss clients or people who want to improve their performance in sport, any people who want to make massive gains in the muscle department I tend to point them in the direction of a more suitable PT. Whilst I can add muscle on to people no problem, PT is expensive so the client should go with somebody with a bit more expertise in that field, who can get the client there quicker, luckily I can afford to do this, unfortunately a lot of PTs can't so will take on any client regardless.

The point I was getting at above is that, yes I do follow what I say and sell to clients however its can be hard sometimes for people to realise that yes I do have a "slob" day every now and then, (it's actually beneficial to me anyway) usually on a Saturday - again people comment but when I show them my food diary, and my training diary on the other 6 days a week it tends to show them that actually I do earn my days off. That said even my "slob" days are nor ably more healthy than most people's normal days, you won't see me binging on fast food etc, usually it's a chocolate bar and a bag of crisps or too, possibly a cookie from Millie's if I'm feeling dangerous!

Well I can only comment on the PTs that I have met and I would say 95% do - there are a couple however that I've met that do smoke and eat badly. I would never hire them.

One thing that I find interesting is that almost all I the guys in my team have said that they would hire a pt to train them every now and then - we all suffer from the odd motivational issue like everyone else, probably on a lot lesser scale though ie - in my case I sometimes don't want to run - but I just do because practically I know it will benefit me.

What is good about my team is that each pt tends to have a specialist area (eg I have a British record holder in powerlifting, an ex-pro footballer, triathlete and a pro dancer to name a few) so whilst they are in competition with eachother they can also help eachother out if they are stuck.

EDIT: apologies for grammar - on my phone

Also I should add that some of you probably know where I work an therefore who I am. You should know that I hire our PTs myself and that are all training hard and work very hard to keep their clients happy (ie hitting their goals)

If you are interested the please get I contact with the pt you want to work with - don't feel intimidated - they're all nice guys and only too pleased to help

Had a driving lesson yesterday. I was on a dual carriageway, I wanted to move to the right lane however there is a car right next to me doing the same speed I am. I tried to ease off the accelerator and to drop back but annoyingly enough the car remain at the same speed as me. Should I have speeded up and move over ( I think its illegal) or ease off even more and drop back?

Undertaking is illegal (except for registered undertakers) unless in slow moving traffic, the correct thing to do is to slow down let him pass and move over to the right lane behind him a safe distant back, then drive right up his arse flashing your lights and gesturing for the cvnt to move over to the inside land then flip him off as you blast past.
