John Terry insists he can play at the top level for another three years

John Terry says there is loads to play for at Chelsea this season

Chelsea defender John Terry insists he can play at the top level for another three years as his future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance.

Terry's current deal ends this summer and he claimed earlier this year that the club will not be offering him a new deal.

While reiterating that any extension on the deal is down to the club, Terry is adamant he can play at the top of football for another "two or three years".

Terry says he has been in his best physical shape in the last three or four seasons

He said: "I'm probably feeling in the last three or four years the best physical condition that I've ever been in.

"As a youngster you take it for granted; you eat what you want, you can train, have a rest, but when you get older you can't. You can't eat the pastas, the breads, it all goes out of the window. The sleep too.

"That aspect of it has a big impact, and I've certainly seen the impact of that.

Terry rooting for Leicester

John Terry admits he is rooting for Leicester to end their fairy-tale season in fairy-tale fashion

"But listen, I've definitely got two or three years left in me, as I said before I would be gutted if it wasn't for Chelsea, and if not it will be somewhere else for sure."

Terry has already made clear that he would not make a move to another Premier League club having been at Chelsea for 21 years.

Guus Hiddink is still unbeaten in the Premier League since arriving in December

His next possible destination has been heavily debated, but Terry, when asked about his next move, insists he is keeping his options open across the globe.

"I want to play at the highest level of course. Obviously for me being Chelsea through and through, and a one-club man, I couldn't play for another Premier League club. I couldn't do that because of the Chelsea fans and what Chelsea means to me.

Speaking earlier this week, Terry said he had not given up hope of a new deal with Chelsea

"We're not sure [where] yet. [Europe] is an option for sure, it's in Chelsea's hands, and as I have said I've made it clear to the club I want to stay.

"That's down to the club. What will be will be. I've had an unbelievable 21 years there. We'll see, only time will tell.

Terry again admitted the players let Jose Mourinho down before his sacking

"If not, I will be playing. I don't know whether that will be Italy, MLS, China, Qatar, I really don't know at the moment."

Chelsea are unbeaten in the Premier League since Jose Mourinho was sacked in December, with interim manager Guus Hiddink steadying the ship and moving the club into the top half.

They are still in the FA Cup and Champions League, and Terry admits the form they are showing at the moment proves the players were letting Mourinho down.

"I've said it before, we feel as though we let [Mourinho] down as players, and the way we are performing at the moment, that was going to come.

Terry has not ruled out joining the likes of Ashley Cole in MLS, but also mentioned Europe, China and Qatar

"He's a great manager, a top manager, and Guus has come in and done brilliantly. To pick up from where we were, and to be undefeated in so many games in the league.

"We're in the top half of the table which is a step in the right direction for us, and we're still in the Champions League and FA Cup, so there's still an awful lot to play for."

John Terry was speaking at the London Football Awards in London, raising funds for national charity Willow. For more information, visit londonfootballawards.org

That goal made them happier than wining the league will make us. Sure wish I was a Watford fan.

It makes absolutely no sense to me, they lost in the play off final? In the grand scheme of things that goal meant very little. Don't get me wrong, for neutrals and of course Watford fans, that moment must have been great viewing, but for somebody there to state "had a tear in my eye reading that..."

Have a fxcking day off

I thought it was bad that they think it's better than us winning the league. But to put it in the same bracket as Aguero and solskjaer let alone England's fourth in the 66 final is embarrassing

I still don't get what makes it such a great moment, at the time sure it would have been brilliant but for it to live on like it has is just silly ... giving they lost the more important final. We beat forest in the last minute to get in the playoffs but we don't go on and on about it Edited by foxes_rule1978

What do you expect? Watford are microscopic in terms of club size and that was the highlight of that clubs entire history. They're no bigger then a club of say Huddersfield's size. They are specialists at failure. Edited by 4everfox

In terms of the joy they felt at the time it probably is? obviously it meant nothing in the end, but a few of them on there seem to be saying that too. fair enough

I'm no saying it wouldn't have been an amazing moment to be in. But surely it doesn't compare to Aguero and solskjaer?

lol lol lol no way, that's tragic

Imagine thinking that winning the league after 20+ years of Elite Club domination out of nowhere is less euphoric than a counter attack in a Championship Play-Off Semi-Final lol

We did the exact same thing at Forest only a couple games before as well, six months after we moved on lol

Apparently Garth Crooks now says he's against TV refereeing and goal line technology because of one dodgy decision 30 years ago. Apparently it will completely remove the "element of luck" from the game - never mind the damage big wrong decisions can do to title challenges, World Cup campaigns, relegation battles or in extreme cases the survival of football clubs. Give me strength, man's a dinosaur. Makes me sick to know my TV license helps pay his salary.

Needing to win at Nottingham Forest and for Bolton not to beat Blackpool, Leicester’s 90th-minute strike at the City Ground and the Trotters’ 2-2 draw allowed them to scrape into sixth. Given the way it all ended, Leicester’s late goalscorer that day, Anthony Knockaert, might have wished he hadn’t bothered.

This in a broadsheet piece about Deeney's goal.  Irony overload.   :D

Edit: It gets better further down the page:

Watford would go on to lose the final to Crystal Palace, but in some respects that hardly mattered.

Guardian stahp.

Garth Crooks really has shown his colours today, when they were talking about Leicester he was making weird noises, like he was masturbating and then talked about Norwich.

He was pressed on Leicester and said Watford will get something out of this game.

Looked really weird too, looked like a demonic pixie.

Doncaster did the same thing a fortnight earlier (Brentford missed a penalty in stoppage time and Doncaster immediately scored) to win the title on the final day and were over it by the next calendar year started...

Yeah. He's an oddball. In the very first shot of him, he was staring blankly at the ceiling.

Danny Mills was talking sense - he knew it was a game that would suit us and expected us to win. He was right. I noticed the groaning, as well. While Mills was speaking, he was moaning all over it. Turned out it was just because someone shot wide of goal.
