Whether it's a marketing tool remains to be seen. The design itself is worth the price alone: http://www.neogeox.com The console version, a portable Neo Geo entertainment system, comes with 20 pre-installed classic NeoGeo titles, the NeoGeo X Gold Limited Edition includes a joystick and the docking station (for use via TV). The games are quite rare and expensive and the handheld seems to come with the games preinstalled. If you want NeoGeo games why not just grab the MAME emulator or better still, pick up an old PSP and grab the emu thats available for that, its pretty much perfect.
