Grewks Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 This is the most deluded thing I've heard on this thread. I've spoke to someone pretty close to the situation and its 90% certain that he's signing for them permanently. Someone good enough for Manchester United be it 1st team or Reserves is good enough for Leicester City. Konchesky has done **** all this season and Schlupp looked very good at LB only making 1 mistake against Leeds. What a load of rubbish. Konch is at left back on merit. Schlupp made more than one mistake at leeds, he got skinned the whole game and endlessly gave the ball away, and was quite rightly dropped. Since then, konch has played everygame, we have only conceded 6 in 9, and he has not made a single mistake. I fail to see why people rate schlupp so highly. He proved last year he was not good enough to play at striker, he has never been in the game when put on the wing. Let me ask you this. Is schlupp currently near the level of marshall, knocky, wood, james, drinky, de laet?? The answer is no, and therefore he doesn't feature in out first team plans.
Grewks Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 As for people comparing this to when gradel left. Pearson has already said that he never wanted to sell gradel, but max wanted out and NP wasn't going to keep an unhappy player, just like mattock. Lets be honest, gradel and mattock have hardly had a huge upturn in fortunes have they?
Happy Fox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 The main thing is that we get decent money so we can bring in a player or two of quality, to cement us as a top two team. You cannot begrudge Schlupp this opportunity and it is one where he has to grasp it with both hands which I am sure he will Good luck to the lad.
kingfox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Lets be honest, gradel and mattock have hardly had a huge upturn in fortunes have they? Gradel is at Saint Etienne who are a very decent French side. Mattock has gone down hill though, capable of playing for Liverpool now can't even start regularly for Sheffield Wednesday.
Grey Fox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I imagine that 24 hours ago, you would consider it 'highly doubtful' that schlupp would be having a trial at manchester united. Very true, but one swallow, does not a summer make. I would be more than happy if that turned out to be the case though.
ozleicester Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Surely, this is the time to be playing the lad, let him get a couple of goals, show him off...increase the value enormously.... Suddenly a $500,000 player becomes a 3 million. My assumption is, if.. IF Manure are interested, there will be a buy and return loan agreement, we will develop him, have him play here whilst he remains a Manure player, they pay the wages etc, if he develops, they take him back and give him a run in the cup games etc. If not, we get him on a cheap buy back

Ryan mcgivern is still on the books at man city, they are a very decent side, but he is a poor player. There were rumours of arsenal looking at gradel when he was at leeds, so yes in reality his career has gone backwards.

How the hell has Gradel's career gone backwards, Leeds to Saint Etienne is a step up, in Mattock's case West Brom to Sheff Wed is a step backwards. McGivern is on loan at Hibs is it, he won't stay at Man City much longer, some League 1 side will come in for him.
Kitchandro Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Sorry for being lazy but it's 6 pages and it's late, can anyone sum up?
Fox92 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Wow, didn't expect that. Don't want Schlupp to go, but the opportunity of playing for a club like Manchester United cannot be turned down, especially at his age.
May 21st Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Does anyone think he can play lw? It makes no sense for us to take him as a lb, we have Fabio and Buttner and a decent young LB in Blackett as well. We don't need another.
ACF Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 No! They can't have him ): I was JUST about to buy a shirt with his name on the back.
Tom17LCFC Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I love the lad and will be gutted if he does eventually go, but having come through our academy, I feel like we've got a special bond with him, and want him to progress in his career as far as he can. Good luck to the lad if he goes.
thewarmanator Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I'd have to agree with letting him go if they want him. Obviously I'd like for us to be able to compete with the likes of Man U and the only way to do that would be to keep the likes of Knockaertowi and Schluppowi - and any other talented bloody -owi that Nige unearths and brings in. But at the moment that is a pipe dream and we must be realistic. No doubt our most talented young players see us as a platform to build their careers. Not a bad thing, if it means we go up and stay there. Even if we only get £2m (I bloody hope it's more than that) for Jeffowi then he'd have paid for our little Millwall/West Brom recruit already. We won't get 2 mill for him. Any deal is likely to be heavily weighted with add ons eg appearances, international appearances and sell on fees
dmayne7 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Well, if it is true then clearly my eye is as good as SAF's . The thing about Jeff is that he has all the attributes to perform as a top quality striker but is just not given the chance. He can be a great LB as well but I think his future lies in the forward positions. If he doesn't get the chance to perform here then I hope he does go. Sick of us wasting the great talent that we have.
Babylon Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 One thing several professionals have said about Schlupp is that he is equally at home in any position on the pitch and has fantastic technical ability. I could see United developing him into a world class player. But...why isn't he getting a game if this is the case? Because he's shown absolutely no sign of being world class, or anywhere near it. That's why. Could he be converted into a very decent left back, I think so. A chance of making it as a striker at a top level, I very much doubt it.
Babylon Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 He doesn't get much game time, so it makes me wonder if United coaches have been at the training ground checking on their players at some point and spotted him. I'm more than happy to be Man Uniteds feeder club to be honest.
TrentFox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Uunited are a huge club with huge resources. They can afford a 'gamble' on a player with potential. We are a medium club with medium resources. We are only going to play our best players in a promotion challenge. Much as I like the lad, that's not JS right now. He's not going to get game time at Utd any more than he is here. But they can afford that luxury. We can't. What will be will be. Hope it works for him. Once in a lifetime opportunity.
qwerty123 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 What's more important than anything is the relationship we (Pearson) had with Man U. Being able to cherry pick the up and coming Utd players in the future would be invaluable. They are obviously impressed with our set up and training rescheme Imagine if we do get in the Prem the amount of players we'd be able to select from

We have a good defence, he's going to struggle to get game time at the moment. You can't just play people for developments sake, we aren't Crewe. Loaning him out is a choice, but that just means you need to get someone else in as backup. Meaning he slips further down the pecking order. Unless a player has unreal talent it's difficult to blood them as much as you'd like in our situation.

OriginalRobboFOX Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I honestly see him as a better LB than forward. I also think NPs experiment playing him there must have caught Utd.s eye. Lets face it he's not a goal scoring machine at the moment and not sure he ever will be. He has bags of pace and strength but lacks composure for me. If I had the choice to mould him as a full back or forward I'd take full back.

If I had the choice to mould him as a full back or forward I'd take full back. Bit harsh saying he's not a goal scoring machine at the minute. When was the last time he played any football in an advanced role? In fact it's weeks since he played any football at all. No player, no matter how talented can score from the stands, and it's harsh to judge a strikers record when he's playing at left back.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 This whole thing is just weird. I'd assumed that NP's plan this season was to give him game time and develop him ready for being our 1st choice LB next season. He's great in that position and he's equally valuable on the bench where he can effectively be '3 players worth' coming on as LB, LW or as a striker. From the games he played earlier in the season he seems a great prospect and I don't really understand why he can't be closer to the team right now or just loaned off to another championship team? If he goes we won't get much for him, we'll have lost a really good player and we'll only have Konchesky at LB, he is rapidly approaching being past it, so we'll need to immediately look for cover and/replacements. In all of this where does the club benefit exactly?
