Babylon Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 This whole thing is just weird. I'd assumed that NP's plan this season was to give him game time and develop him ready for being our 1st choice LB next season. He's great in that position and he's equally valuable on the bench where he can effectively be '3 players worth' coming on as LB, LW or as a striker. From the games he played earlier in the season he seems a great prospect and I don't really understand why he can't be closer to the team right now or just loaned off to another championship team? If he goes we won't get much for him, we'll have lost a really good player and we'll only have Konchesky at LB, he is rapidly approaching being past it, so we'll need to immediately look for cover and/replacements. In all of this where does the club benefit exactly? If Manchester United want one of your players there is little you can do about it lets face it. The place we would benefit would be in receiving a transfer fee, how much we don't know. He can't get any closer to the team than he already is, the defence is very capable at the moment. Long term I wouldn't be surprised if Pearson saw him as the replacement for Konch. Loaning him out is pointless, as we'd still need to get a replacement in... why bother when you have a potentially good one on your books.
Ric Flair Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Didn't they sign De Laet when he was about 19 from Stoke and he'd not played many games for them. They take gambles on players with potential because with the right training and development, the odd one will turn out to be shit hot and a bargain. If not, then they move them on for as a half decent fee. Schlupp surprised me at left back, he looks like he could make it in that role and possibly in midfield. Up front, although a tidy finisher he doesn't strike me a a natural striker with the awareness needed at this level and higher. Goal scoring left back? Gold dust.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I stopped reading this thread when Grewks said Gradel's career had gone backwards. Jesus wept.
Bert Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I stopped reading this thread when Grewks said Gradel's career had gone backwards. Jesus wept. So why are you still in here?
coolhandfox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I’ve got a feeling this is a hurry up for Palace regarding Zaha by Man U, i.e. get a move with negotiations because we are looking at other options.

That's exactly what I thought. The clubs are obviously in regular dialogue as Man United will be keeping an eye on Keane (and previously Lingard) and we know NP has a good relationship with them. Maybe there is more to it, but this is bound to come to CPFC's attention...
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 So why are you still in here? I'm a very, very bored man with time to kill mate. The internet's wasted on me.

Considering they are mates maybe they are getting Jeff so Zaha has a football fweeeeeeend to play with.

I dont know about that imo, don't Palace rate Zaha at something ridiculous like 10mill? Schlupp aint worth anywhere near that.
MrSpaM Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Keane on perm and Scholes on loan for the rest of the season and they can have him
Fox 4 Life Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 This is clearly just to keep the goodwill between the clubs , they have done a lot for us. Schlupp isn't ready for United and I'm sure they will see that but it can't do anything but help the relationship with one of the biggest clubs in the world.

How would sending them a player not good enough for them be a good thing? United are canny buggers, they will get him and loan him out to a team who will guarantee first team football, he'll do well and they will flog him for 2/3/4 times what they paid for him.
RyanLCFC18 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I'm not saying Manchester United aren't a big club, they are doing well this season and it would be good for Schulpp to be part of that because he isn't getting games here... but he would at United? you insane?

Babylon Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 but he would at United? you insane? Not there he wouldn't, but they can afford to loan him out to a team that can give him games. We aren't in a position to risk him at left back and help him improve, neither can we loan him out as we need him.

Happy Fox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Will we get good money for Schlupp say more than £2m?
yorkie1999 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Best of luck to the lad, i know its a loss to us but he must be pretty made up with having the chance to play for one of the biggest teams in the world.
Bert Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Will we get good money for Schlupp say more than £2m? Doubtful. If it was to happen there would be many clauses inserted I'd say.
Finnegan Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 It would be nice if we had a first option on him for like two or three years in case he didn't make it there. Were that the case I wouldn't be fussed if we got much wedge for the sale to be honest. Maybe a % of the sell on if he didn't come to us.
Kilworthfox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 SHOCKED! Whats next??? Real Madrid in for Tom Hopper? I can't see why a club in a better division would want a player who can't make the bench for LCFC, hopefully this is a dodgy deal & we see some cash #BEBE
The People's Hero Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I like Schlupp although I've not seen as much of him as a few of you. Was genuinely excited when he grabbed that hat-trick on debut.

Missed his league cup games but think I've seen all his championship cameos and genuinely like the look of him at full back. Composed, quick, good on the ball, not afraid to tackle. I'd play him ahead of Konchesky, who I have no problem at all with besides a lack of pace.
