I have three or four cups of nescafe coffee every day. Need to have a sugar in it otherwise it's too bitter. I've often thought about developing my taste in coffee.

I don't buy Starbucks or Costa or any of that shit though because I am not a faggot.

Fixed

You do realise that be including smaller mountains alongside the worlds tallest, you have diluted the level of banter to which 21st CF accredited you with, especially by including Snowdonia, that is basically a glorified hill.

Never tried it but would if I was in the situation, especially if I was in the country. I love to try the local food and drink wherever I go - sure it sometimes means a couple of days of the shits or food poisoning but what's the point travelling for culture if you don't?

Coffee is shit.

I only drink Orange, Water or the odd Coke.

That's fine, you'll probably appreciate coffee when you grow up and the usual coffee served in England is quite shit.

I used to drink coke well Pepsi when I was a kid but I grew out of the taste, I occasionally have cherry coke as it reminds me of good times with my youngest but I fail to see what I liked about coke these days.

Had it 20 odd years ago in Sumatra, delish, but there was no evidence of its passage in its taste or smell and I didnt pay £40 a cup. The locals are now breeding the Civets to eat and 'produce' the digested beans, but of course they are made to eat any bean where as in the wild they would only eat the prime beans. Caging wild animals too, progress eh?

It's a French press (or cafétiere or press pot). That's what I use at home.

It's simple.

Buy ground coffee (if you're in any supermarket you'll have a good choice - perhaps start with Carte Noire) - not instant, boil your kettle. If it's a small pot put a couple of spoons of coffee into the pot (more if you like it strong, less if you like it weak); pour the just boiled water onto the coffee and give it a good stir, put the top on but don't press it down - then wait - again the time depends on your taste - start at a couple of minutes. Slowly press the filter down which separates the grinds then pour yourself a cup - not a mug - just a cup. Add a little sugar or honey if you need it and for you a little milk (though you should try it without and see if you like it).

I think that you'll find you like it much more than your nescafe instant. In fact I'm sure you will. Then there should be enough coffee for a second cup.

Try it this week and then tell me that I'm this week's hero.

Just checked and it's an 8 cup cafetiere. Sounds posh. I'll have a look at some posh coffes when I go to Tescos. Not sure I'll like it though if it's too strong.

I think it just means a culture of friends socialising in coffee houses etc rather than pubs and bars.

TV series such as Friends , Frazier , Sex in the City etc etc often feature a lot .

When I work from home on a Friday I sometimes go and meet my Mum in a coffee house in town for a chat. Never new there was a term for it.

I'm quite sure it's not as glamerous as sex in the city, maybe cos we don't have sex, and we're not in the city. I expect everything else is the same though.

If you are interested, my Mum has a small latte and I have a large white filter coffee.

Are these things only any good for espresso, or can you make a not-so-strong, full mug of coffee?

Although I've seen them around for years, I've never been arsed to know how they work or what they're good for......plus the fact that we've only recently gone back to a gas hob. If they're only good for espresso, I can't see it being used often enough to warrant buying one......but could make us appear cultured when friends visit?

Remember you don't have to fill it.

I'm a coffee drinker, so it's clearly not gay. Although people who go to Starbucks and that are obviously at least bi-curious, if not yet fully queer. And people who get elitist about coffee, especially people who bang on about how it's so much better in another country like fooking Spain are probably just subconsciously reminiscing about the time they sipped a frappucino while being raw dogged by the local los cockos humungus on some sun drenched catalonian balcony.

I've used one of these daily for the last few years, after having nothing else to make coffee in whilst in Italy.

Makes espresso then add the amount of hot water to suit your own taste.

I've got a couple of those already & they are good.......but it's the washing up & the grounds seem to get everywhere.

I use one of these. A coffee filter inside, a couple of spoons of coffee & plonk it on top of your mug. When you're done, filter in the bin & rinse the plastic cone under the tap......piece of piss. Takes about the same time as instant coffee & doesn't make you late for work.

I'm liking the look of those stove-top things, but wrongly thought they were only any good for espresso.

they are great, you get a pot of strong coffee and then you can add water if you want it Americano, or as I like it with quite a bit of milk, normally 2 parts milk to 1 part coffee, or like I say any of the above combinations, condensed milk, ice cream, brandy etc

Whatever works for you - I find it easy to pour the grounds on the garden and then swill the press pot under the tap - don't need to search for a filter. Each to their own.

Whoever could you mean?

Never used to drink coffee until I started living in Spain, then I really started to enjoy a nice coffee after a meal, then I came back to the UK, and wondered why they were serving me brown piss, when I was sure I had ordered coffee, started having it for breakfast in a hotel when I was working after a few hanging nights, then it got to the point where I was wreck in the morning and not sleeping at night, and so I stopped, now I don't drink coffee at all over here it tastes like shit.

In Spain, my usual brand was BONKA, standard fair, but good stuff made with one of these:

They also do good variations, Granizado, which is a slush puppy style coffee, bonbon, which is with condensed milk, nacional, which is with vanilla ice cream, and my favourite, carajillo, which is coffee with heated brandy (or rum), often with heated sugar, and a bit of cinnamon too, sets you up for a night out after a big meal.

...and they are known locally as "pollas grandes", which they wouldn't be in Catalunya, as they speak Catalan, but anyway I digress, the coffee tasted nicer in Spain because it was nicer, they used proper coffee everywhere even in the equivalent of a greasy spoon, they actually take pride in things like that, unlike many places in the UK where they are satisfied peddling any old cheap shite as long as it is brown and has caffeine in it.

PS I don't actually know what a frappucino is anyone care to explain.

Obviously not me for a change. :)

The UK has the worst coffe I've ever tasted in the world. The number of black coffees I just leave because it's a mug of watery instant!! And a Small black coffee is about 40CL.

Think it's a Starbucks coffee. Frappé - so with ice - cappuccino - so espresso with frothy milk and normally some other flavouring. A novelty for a hot afternoon no doubt.
